AbstractAbstract
[en] Two methods are described for the experimental determination of the Murphee-efficiency applied to the traces of a separation column which represents a hot cold process. Combining the advantages of both methods, it can be proposed a third one which permits the determination of the tray efficiency and the slope of the operating line by concomitent measurements of 3 isotopic concentrations of the liquid phase in 3 different points of the column, and a concentration of the gaseous phase of the same tray with one of the liquid phase concentrations, respectively, in the point of minimal izotopic concentration. AbstractAbstract
[en] A short-cut design procedure was developed allowing the quick approximate design of nonisothermal packed gas absorption columns by hand. The method is not based on simplifying assumptions but on a correlation of a large number of rigorously obtained liquid temperature profiles. The rigorous computations include a wide range of system properties and operating conditions. Correlation of the liquid temperature profiles was possible by correlating the temperature of the exit liquid and a temperature associated with the internal temperature maximum separately. Also, the need for graphical integration in cases with equilibrium lines curved due to the temperature variations was eliminated by replacing the curved equilibrium line by two straight lines and correlating the slopes of those lines. The proposed method is more reliable than the conventional approximate calculation methods based on simplifying assumptions and is often even less time consuming

AbstractAbstract
[en] Mathematical models are of immense assistance in effectively predicting the performance of an operating pulse column by simulating the dynamic behaviour of the column. They are useful in formulation of transfer function for process control loop and control systems. Such models also provide information on the time required for attaining steady state after an upset in set process conditions. This paper describes an experimental investigation on the dynamic behaviour of a pulsed column. The effect of changes in concentration in one of the feed streams on the performance of the column is discussed. (author)
