[en] High-purity β-UF5 was formed in good yield by the uv photolysis of UF6 in the presence of the fluorine scavenger CO at room temperature. SO2 used as fluorine scavenger yielded a product of lesser purity than when CO was used. β-UF5 was found to react cleanly with 5 equiv of NaOC2H5 to give high purity U(OC2H5) in good yield

[en] Special multipurpose probes have been designed and fabricated to facilitate temperature measurement and sample withdrawal during an experiment which was conducted to examine the UF6 assay homogenization process within a standard 10-ton UF6 cylinder during a typical cylinder heating cycle in a steam autoclave. Three special probes were mounted in the test cylinder and used to provide 15 temperature measurement points and to collect UF6 samples at 4 of the 15 points. This report discusses the design and construction of these probes and how the various design criteria were met
