AbstractAbstract
[en] Various theories and classification systems have been proposed from time to time, to understand the embryology of the female genital system. Even then at times we come across something different, something new, which again questions our understanding of this subject matter and the theories which are most accepted worldwide. Mullerian anomalies result from the improper development and fusion of the embryological mullerian ducts. It is generally considered to occur in less than 5% of women. Here we present a rare and interesting case of a young female having septate uterus with double cervix and a longitudinal vaginal septum with pregnancy

AbstractAbstract
[en] Temporary or permanent sterility can occur if the testis is heated to between 370C and 420C. This paper describes magnetic resonance (MR) imaging capable of producing elevations in tissue temperatures, particularly if high levels of radio-frequency energy are used. The authors evaluated scrotal skin temperatures (a good correlation between scrotal skin and intratesticular temperatures has been previously demonstrated) in six subjects undergoing MR imaging (1.5T) of the scrotum at whole-body average specific absorption rates ranging from 0.5 to 0.8 W/kg. Ambient conditions were comfortable and held constant. Temperatures were determined before and after MR imaging with an infrared thermometer. They conclude that MR imaging performed at relatively high specific absorption rates produces a significant increase in scrotal skin temperature. However, the absolute temperature is below the threshold that is known to affect testicular function

AbstractAbstract
[en] Objective: To determine the limits for the amount of tunical fluid enough to be termed as hydrocele by using extended-field of view US technology and to define hydrocele for the first time with standard numerical criteria. Methods: A total of 60 patients were evaluated in this prospective study. Group 1 consisted of 20 patients with unilateral clinical hydrocele. Group 2 included 20 patients referred for scrotal US for reasons other than hydrocele. Group 3 comprised 20 male controls with no scrotal complaints. Testis volume (Vt), scrotum volume (Vs) and Vt/Vs ratio were calculated for each subject by dimensions measured in longitudinal and tranverse planes. Results: Mean Vt/Vs ratio was 0.28 ± 0.17 (range, 0.07-0.57), 0.69 ± 0.08 (range, 0.53-0.80) and 0.71 ± 0.07 (range, 0.61-0.85) for groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Mean Vt/Vs for group 1 was significantly lower than those for groups 2 and 3, respectively (p < 0.001 for each). Based on the ROC curve analysis, 0.55 for Vt/Vs ratio was determined as the optimal cut-off point below which the US diagnosis of hydrocele could be made (sensitivity 95.0% and specificity 97.5%). Conclusions: We propose a novel US parameter of Vt/Vs ratio below 0.55 for a standard distinction between hydrocele and physiological amount of scrotal fluid

AbstractAbstract
[en] Krukenberg tumors recognized during pregnancy are rarely reported. The preoperative diagnosis can be challenging because of the confusing morphological features and symptoms during pregnancy. Here, we report a case of a 29-year-old pregnant woman at 29 weeks gestation presenting with bilateral solid ovarian masses, which were later diagnosed as metastatic ovarian cancer originating from advanced gastric cancer. This case suggests that Krukenberg tumors should be considered when bilateral ovarian solid masses are encountered regardless of pregnancy

[en] This work is about diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of testicular germinal tumors. The presumed diagnosis is based in the anamnesis, clinical examination, testicular ultrasound and tumor markers. The definitive diagnosis is obtained through the inguinal radical orchidectomy

AbstractAbstract
[en] Today ultrasound investigation is one of the most effective approaches to differential diagnostics of malignant tumors in ovaries and the way to determine the size of their spreading as well. Good qualification of the specialist who carries out ultrasound investigation is of great importance. The traits which are characteristic to the malignant tumors are: heterogeneous mixed structure of the tumor, indistinct contours, presence of partitions and infiltrations, papillary invasions outside and inside of its surface, availability of spare liquor in abdominal cavity

AbstractAbstract
[en] This volume contains the Proceedings of the IV European Workshop on Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology of the Testis held in Capri (Italy) between the 9th and 12th April 1986. The workshop was organized in several symposia related to some of the most relevant aspects of the regulation of testicular function. Main topics were the role of cell interactions, the mechanisms of signal transduction, gene expression and metabolic response of somatic cells as well as differentiation of germ cells. One session was devoted to prostaglandins in the male reproductive system and to brief discussions on interstitial fluid and on antispermatogenic compounds. In this book only the main lectures and some selected short papers are presented. (Auth.)
