[en] A special shop for making miniature or very small parts is being established within the LASL Shop Department, and one of the machine tools for this shop is a high precision lathe. The report describes a method based on scale modeling analysis which was used to define the specific requirements for this lathe
[en] Well designed large systems include many instrument taking data. These data are used in a variety of ways. They are used to control the system and its components, to monitor system and component health, and often for historical or financial purposes. This paper discusses a new method of using data from low level instrumentation to monitor system and component health. The method uses the covariance of instrument outputs to calculate a measure of system change. The method involves no complicated modeling since it is not a parameter estimation algorithm. The method is iterative and can be implemented on a computer in real time. Examples are presented for a metal lathe and a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. It is shown that the proposed method is quite sensitive to system changes such as wear out and failure. The method is useful for low level system diagnostics and fault detection

[en] Manufacturing technology of large-sized E-13 magnet pole pieces for separators, accelepators and other electrophysical equipment is described. The system of automatic calculation of a program for the treatment of pieces on a duplicating milling machine with program control is under consideration. Calculations of the program and treatment technique are carried out along with the recording of necessary punched and magnetic tapes. [en] The invention relates to centerless grinding apparatus having feed mechanisms for introducing members to the grinder. The particular application discussed is in the manufacture of nuclear fuel pellets. During the sintering step in the manufacturing process the pellet may shrink non-uniformly and has to be ground into a cylindrical shape before being stacked to form a fuel element. The grinder described provides a pellet feeder which separates the pellet stream and feeds pellets one at a time with each pellet having the same timing and velocity as it enters the grinding wheel, thus enabling the pellets to be ground to a uniform dimension. The forms of vibration of the torsional system are identified, and the amplitude–frequency characteristics of the gearbox’s dynamic pliability are determined. Management of maintenance activities can be developed from the above definition by describing the activities of the universal dividing head treatment at Holke milling machine. The equipment is a major tool in the milling machine used to manufacture a wide range of very precise grooves, the hole and diameter should have the same distance, and the even and uneven distribution. The tool was damaged and cannot be functioned. The bearing of fulcrum axle was crushed and the screw shaft was worn out due to aging. Therefore, maintenance activity was carried out by replacing of bearing. Function test was then made, and the result shows that the universal dividing head can function well. (author)
