AbstractAbstract
[en] The ballistic electron transport through the two-terminal nano arrangement is considered. The obvious formula for the electron transmission coefficient as the function of its energy is obtained. The equation determining the parameters of the Breit-Wigner and Fano resonances is identified. The conditions, whereby the collapse of the Fano resonances is observed, are established. The effect of the contacts parameters and their mutual disposition on the system transport properties is studied

Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] An analytical model for the mobility of electrons in surface charge coupled devices is studied on the basis of the results previously obtained, considering a surface diffuse scattering; the importance of the results obtained for a better understanding of the influence of the fringing field in surface charge coupled devices is discussed. AbstractAbstract
[en] The response of multiple quantum well (QW) infrared photodetectors (QW) to the photoexcitation of one QW selected from many identical QWs was recently modeled [M. Ershov, J. Appl. Phys. 86, 7059 (1999)]. We point out here that the presented analysis based on the use of drift-diffusion model for a system with a few electrons is incorrect. AbstractAbstract
[en] As an example of the power of a revision of the method of free paths, the effect of treating transport of charge for electrons moving on unapproximated parabolic trajectories in strong electric fields is examined. It is shown that, although potential error as large as 70% might occur in mobilities which neglect trajectory curvature, as a practical physical matter such peculiar regimes are never reached, and the error of neglecting trajectory curvature is generally less than 1% regardless of the field strength. [en] The effect of ratio of the mobilities of electrons and ions and non-dimensional electric field, on the stability of magnetized positive column for all unstable modes is studied in a self-consistent formulation for the perturbations of plasma density and electric potential. The minimum non-dimensional electric field at which magnetized positive column becomes unstable for different ratios of the mobilities of electrons and ions is also investigated. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Electronic behavior of a 1D Aubry chain with Hubbard interaction is critically analyzed in presence of electric field. Multiple energy bands are generated as a result of Hubbard correlation and Aubry potential, and, within these bands localized states are developed under the application of electric field. Within a tight-binding framework we compute electronic transmission probability and average density of states using Green's function approach where the interaction parameter is treated under Hartree–Fock mean field scheme. From our analysis we find that selective transmission can be obtained by tuning injecting electron energy, and thus, the present model can be utilized as a controlled switching device.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The transmission of ions at low m/z can be either necessary for an application or problematic (e.g. when large numbers of low m/z ions consume a large fraction of an ion trap's capacity). The low m/z ion transmission limit of an electrodynamic ion funnel has been characterized using both experimental and theoretical approaches. A theoretical model is developed based on a series of infinite wire conductors that represent the ring electrodes of the ion funnel. Mathematical relationships for both low and high m/z cutoffs of the idealized two-dimensional system are derived. The low m/z cutoff is also evaluated through a series of experiments that show it is influenced by both the RF frequency and the DC electric field gradient. However, unlike multipole ion guides, there is no marked dependence of the low m/z cutoff on the RF amplitude, in agreement with theoretical results. With this new understanding, ion funnels can be designed and configured to better match the m/z range requirements for various applications
