AbstractAbstract
[en] A semianalytical method for the design and analysis of high-efficienty (>50%) generation of radiation in traveling output structures is presented. No a priori assumption about the functional form of the electromagnetic field is required. The concept of scalar interaction impedance used in periodic structures is generalized to a matrix in the case of a nonperiodic system. Its eigenvalue is shown to be directly related to the beam-wave interaction efficiency. The method is demonstrated with the design and analysis of a 70% efficiency system

[en] The principles of the β-γ coincidence method, the corrections to be applied to the measurement results: dead time loses, accidental coincidences, background pulses, source dimensions, fluctuations of the counting system, disintegration scheme and internal conversion of the gamma rays, gamma sensitivity of the beta detector and beta sensitivity of the gamma detector, disintegration during measurement are described. The reduction of these corrections is underlined by using a 4π proportional counter as beta detector is underlined. There are also evaluated the statistical and systematic errors affecting the final results. Finally, a standard ''coincidence counting system'' is briefly presented, together with the requirements for the radioactive source to be standardized. (author)
