AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear operators are eager to update their automation infrastructure, but are apprehensive due to the consequences of failure. The process industries have learned that alarm design is critical to a successful Distributed Control System (DCS) implementation. This paper shares valuable insight into how alarms play a key role in successful management of upsets, help focus operator attention, and supply critical information during periods of high stress. AbstractAbstract
[en] The application status of radioactive sources were investigated in Jiaozuo Company of Henan Coal Chemical and the environmental safety control problems analyzed, Through a standardized safety regulation system, a daily supervision is carried out for safe disposal of disused sources. A on-line radioactive source monitoring system is developed for a 24-hour monitoring of radioactive sources. This can eliminate hidden safety threat and raise radioactive source safety regulation level in the company. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper discusses safety culture in the petrochemical sector and the causes and consequences of safety culture. A sample of 520 responses selected by simple random sampling completed questionnaires for this survey, the return rate was 86.75%. The research instrument comprises four sections: basic information, the safety leadership scale (SLS), the safety climate scale (SCS), and the safety performance scale (SPS). SPSS 12.0, a statistical software package, was used for item analysis, validity analysis, and reliability analysis. Exploratory factor analysis indicated that (1) SLS abstracted three factors such as safety caring, safety controlling, and safety coaching; (2) SCS comprised three factors such as emergency response, safety commitment, and risk perception; and (3) SPS was composed of accident investigation, safety training, safety inspections, and safety motivation. We conclude that the SLS, SCS, and SPS developed in this paper have good construct validity and internal consistency and can serve as the basis for future research.

AbstractAbstract
[en] This article discusses the prospects for the introduction of modern technologies in the business processes of industrial enterprises in the framework of the fourth industrial revolution. The factors determining the vector of development of modern technologies are revealed. The classification of tasks of the enterprises of non-resource sector of economy under which high technologies of “Industry 4.0” are introduced is given. The article also considers the impact of modern technologies on the business processes of industrial enterprises in the context of types of technologies. The analysis of the data of industrial enterprises, which are part of the largest petrochemical holding of the Russian Federation for compliance of the implemented technologies with the tasks of the considered enterprises is given. The study presents data on the possibilities of modern technologies and the results of the impact of technology on the business processes of enterprises. (paper)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The antiwear properties of synthetic engine oils are tested at piston lubrication in water cooled passenger-car diesel engines and compared with conventional mineral oils. The radionuclide wear measurement technique (RNT) was used in the examinations performed on the engine test bench. The basic requirements of an oil test technique, which results from the system property of wear and antiwear phenomena, are discussed and set against the special measurement characteristics of the RNT. Requirements on the conduct of oil tests based on the RNT as well as a delimitation of the statement concerning the test result are derived from the theoretical consideration. The serial testing of the oils in one testing engine allows a direct quantitative comparison of the antiwear properties. The test results which are partly different for the two types of test motors used, were explained by differing wear mechanisms occuring in the lubrification of the running surfaces of piston rings and cylinders. Individual tests on the antiwear behaviour under conditions of aging, in cold operation of the engine and on the efficiency of antiwear additives produced differentiated statements concerning the wear and antiwear phenomena in piston lubrication. AbstractAbstract
[en] This document summarizes the outcomes of a stakeholder session of a citizen-centred deliberative process aimed at discussing how individuals can reduce the environmental impacts of their driving and take better control of their own personal transportation costs. The challenges regarding the implementation of firm actions that address citizen's concerns are presented. Current trends indicate that the increase in demand for gasoline could outstrip increases in supply in the coming years, resulting in instability and unpredictability in the market price of gasoline in Canada. This instability of pricing will prompt consumers to reduce fuel consumption by increasing fuel efficiency. The objective of this stakeholder meeting was to find ways to encourage citizens to become energy efficient. The current barriers include: a lack of knowledge about the impact of driving on climate change and air quality; a lack of trust and credibility; citizens have high expectations of their employers for services such as free shuttle buses, cash in lieu of parking and more flexible working hours; skepticism that government and industry are also doing their part in addressing the environmental, health and climate change impacts of driving; many citizens do not believe the severity of the challenge posed by inefficient use of gasoline; and, more social marketing is required to effectively tap into citizen's sense of social responsibility. Citizens can take action by driving less, use alternative forms of transportation, change driving habits, adopt alternative work arrangements, make wiser choices in purchasing vehicles, and become more politically and personally pro-active. tabs
