AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper is aimed to provide general knowledge to readers on the relation of environmental radiation and man. It briefly describes environmental radiation as source of radiation exposure. The natural environmental radiation level can be enhanced by human activities. Thus, environmental monitoring is really necessary to be carried out in order to assess the extent of radioactive contamination. The enhancement can also be caused by transfer of artificial radoactive materials from neighbouring countries following a nuclear accident such as in Chernobyl, Russia

AbstractAbstract
[en] This book interprets the impact of available data on gastrointestinal uptake and inhalation pathways in infants and young children, discusses the metabolism of radionuclides in developing bone, thyroid and other critical organs and covers in detail the transfer of radionuclides from mother to foetus. The overall implications for radiation protection are assessed, new models are discussed and areas for new research identified. refs.; figs.; tabs
