AbstractAbstract
[en] An accelerated beam in the JINR phasotron has a pulsed time structure. To improve the beam time structure, beam stretching is used by postaccelerating the beam with a C-electrode. The beam postacceleration is provided by the method of synchrocyclotron acceleration. This is the first time when phase displacement is used for the beam stretching in a phasotron. AbstractAbstract
[en] The magnetic field calculation for the axial injection hole of the phasotron with the space variation of magnetic field with proton energy of 680 MeV by means of the POISSON program is given. The magnetic field data for choosing the axial injection beam line parameters are estimated. Some calculations models were used. The calculation results are compared with experimental ones. The calculations have been performed with the accuracy of about 10 percent at the magnetic field level 10 kG. The magnetic field lines were defined in the central region of the accelerator, for realizing the ion source working conditions. The possibility is shown of using the calculated models for the magnetic field shimming. The calculations show the efficiency of using the POISSON program for magnetic field data estimation for complicated magnetic systems with spiral and ring shims

[en] Beam extraction from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) Phasotron by the regenerative method is simulated using a specially developed code. Preliminary calculations show that the extraction efficiency cannot be higher than 40%.

[en] The CERN synchrocylotron (K = 800) is currently enjoying a phase of intense exploitation following the rather slow build-up after the reconstruction programme of 1974-1975. After a great deal of rebuilding and improvements the rotating condensers are both now able to operate at full repetition rate with a dee voltage of 20 kV, producing an internal beam of more than 7 μA of 600 MeV protons, of which up to 5 μA has been extracted. Recently, an interest in particles other than protons has developed, and it was found that certain ions could be accelerated by making relatively minor modifications to the machine. 3He2+ ions of 303 MeV/N have been used since 1978 and there have been several runs with 3He+, 12C4+ and 15N5+ ions since then. These ions have an energy of 86 MeV/N and are produced at very high intensities. Construction work is under way on a modification to the RF system to enable the acceleration of other ions, for example 20Ne6+ and 20Ne5+, for which ion source tests have already given encouraging results
