[en] The possibility is considered which opens for chemistry and material technology when semiquantitative theory of glass formation is used in chalcogenide systems. The use of this theory makes it possible to calculate the values of glass formation regions, to correct experimental errors in determining the boundaries of glass formation regions of known systems, to find the coordination of the series of the compounds in melted and glassy states; the theory allows for considering coordination effect, for instance, in telluride and other systems

[en] The behaviour of electrochemical concentrates of M1-M2 type (M1 = Hg, Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn; M2 = Te, Se, As) on solid electrodes is studied. It is shown that when M1 is more negative, the interaction of the components is weaker and the influence of M1 on the recorded analytical signals is less. Electrochemical concentrates can be formed on an electrode in the form of compounds (including compounds of composition different from 1:1) making possible the appearance of the corresponding signals which can be used in electrochemical stripping analysis. 14 refs.; 5 figs.; 1 tab

[en] In the zero-gap CdxHg1-xTe semiconductor subjected to an axial elastic strain, a band gap is formed between the bottom of the conduction band and the top of the valence band. In the new state, the band structure is found to depend on the initial arrangement of the valence subbands, i.e., on the composition defined by the parameter x. At x < 0.135-0.140, the material becomes a semiconductor with an indirect band gap. If 0.140 < x < 160, the band of light holes at k = 0, Γ6, is found to be above the Γ8 band. As a result, the material becomes a direct-gap semiconductor, and a double 'metal-semiconductor-metal' phase transition in conductivity occurs. In this case, as the strain is increased, the type of conductivity of the zero-gap semiconductor at low temperatures changes according to the sequence as follows: electron metallic conductivity-electron activation conductivity-hopping conductivity-hole metallic conductivity
