AbstractAbstract
[en] The survey and alignment effort for the Advanced Light Source (ALS) accelerator complex has been described elsewhere. Data analysis for this task comprises the creation of ideal data, comparison of measured coordinates with ideal ones, and computation of alignment values, taking into account the effects caused by finite observation accuracy. A novel approach has been taken, using personal computer spreadsheets rather than more conventional programming methods. This approach was induced by the necessities to create and frequently refine the analysis procedures while measurements were already underway, and further by hardware constraints that limited the use of an available surveying code. A major benefit consists in the ability to identify and deal with discrepancies that occasionally arise when different techniques are used to observe the same object, in a timely and efficient manner. As a result of the performed survey and alignment work, the ALS lattice magnets have been positioned with accuracies well exceeding the original specifications

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors started commissioning the Advanced Light Source (ALS) storage ring on January 11, 1993. The stored beam reached 60 mA on March 24, 1993 and 407 mA on April 9, 1993. The fast pace of storage ring commissioning can be attributed partially to the robust injection system. In this paper they describe the operating characteristics of the ALS injection system

AbstractAbstract
[en] Beam emittance measurements in the Advanced Light Source Booster Synchrotron are presented. Electrons are injected at 50 MeV and extracted at various energies ranging from 150 MeV to 1,520 MeV. The extracted beam is then transported in the Booster-to-Storage-Ring beam transfer line where the emittances are measured. Beam sizes are measured at 7 locations using scintillators and CCD cameras. The measured emittances are then compared with the theory based on intra- beam scattering, betatron coupling, radiation damping, and radiation excitation

AbstractAbstract
[en] The AIA secondary flight mirror, previously coated at Columbia University with Mg/SiC for the 303.8 (angstrom) channel and Mo/Y for the 93.9 (angstrom) channel was characterized by means of EUV reflectance measurements at beamline 6.3.2 of the Advanced Light Source (ALS) synchrotron at LBNL on January 10, 2006. Paul Boerner (LMSAL) also participated in these measurements
