AbstractAbstract
[en] Nanotubular materials inspired by crystalline diborides such as AlB2 are proposed. The atomic structure, in particular the basic chemical question of where to put Al atoms in order to stabilize nanotubular Al-B systems, is investigated using density-functional calculations for prototype systems. The optimized tubular prototypes are found to be competitive in energy with their bulk crystalline counterparts. All of the tubular Al-B systems investigated are calculated to be metallic

AbstractAbstract
[en] Non-empirical study of the site preference occupation for Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, V and Ti substituting for Fe in Fe0.75Al0.25 showed that the preference to occupy the γ sublattice decreases in the direction from Ti to Ni. For Cr alloying the change of concentrations from 1.25% to 5% leads to relocation of Cr atoms from α to γ sublattice. The interpretation of results is based on the ideas of the theory of chemical coordination bonds in transition metals

AbstractAbstract
[en] X-ray spectrometry has been, since the last two or three decades, the traditional procedure for the chemical analysis of refractories, due to its high degree of accuracy and speed to produce analytical results. An interesting alternative to X-ray fluorescence is provided by the Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry technique, for those laboratories where wet chemistry facilities are already available or process control is not required at high speed, or investiment costs have to be low. This paper presents results obtained by plasma spectroscopy for the analysis of silico - aluminous refractories, showing calibration curves, precion and detection limits. Considerations and comparisons with X-ray fluorescence are also made. (author)
