AbstractAbstract
[en] Factors, other than radiations emitted by the tracer, which can affect the nuclear emulsion coating the tissue section, are reviewed. The background fog corresponds to spontaneously developable grains in an emulsion unexposed to radiations. Besides the radioautographic reaction produced by the radioactive atoms experimentally introduced in the tissue, various ionizing radiations may give rise to silver grains. When the underlaying tissue displays an irregular relief, mechanical artefacts may be produced. Chemoautography is an artefact resulting from a chemical interaction between the underlaying tissue and the nuclear emulsion

AbstractAbstract
[en] The radiographic methods are important in the scientific inquiry of the art and archaelogic works throughout the world. In Brazil, this study has been realized at a few biological research groups and no more development can be recognized. By the radiographic analysis of six oils on canvas assigned to Ataide (Manuel da Costa Ataide), an impressionist painter of the 18th century, the authors try to determine his main technical pattern (distribution of heavy metal pigments, application of thick layers of pigment, etc.). The basic compositional elements were evaluated along with chemical tests and analysis by ultraviolet and infrared radiations, representing a historic document about Ataide's style. Each technique will be related to the purpose of the inquiry, affording the authors the opportunity to offer comments upon restoration, conservation and authentification of paintings. (author)

(autor)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] The current state of autoradiographic techniques and the limits of their applicability are considered in order to outline the possibilities and conditions of obtaining both qualitative and quantitative information from autoradiographs. The constraints of further development of classical autoradiographic techniques as well as new possibilities of enlarging the applicability of autoradiography by making use of new detection techniques are indicated. [en] Hypersensitization, a technique commonly used by astronomers, can also be used by biochemists to increase the sensitivity and reliability of x-ray film used for fluorography. Preexposure treatment with a safe mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen at 650C, results in a 2- to 8-fold increase in the detection capability of Kodak X-Omat AR and Kodak SB films as compared to the untreated films. 15 refs.; 5 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fertilization and early embryogenesis has been studied in an aquatic heterosporic Fern: Marsilea vestita. The sperm penetration and the evolution of the male genetic material in the fermale nucleoplasm has been followed by autoradiographic techniques with the use of a specific DNA precursor. The male chromatin remains in a limited space of the female nucleoplasm and mixes gradualy during early embryogenesis. A very slow fusion has been found in the cells which will become the apical cells of each functional radicular, foliar and shoot meristems. Concerning the cytoplasmic organelles, the problem is still unresolved but the results obtained by high autoradiographic resolution show that the paternal organelles perhaps partially participate in the organisation of the embryo cytoplasmic genomes

AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors reviewed the reports of 4/3 abnormal hysterosalpingographies from 1,200 medical records of patients at the sterility and infertility out-patient clinic of the School of Medical Sciences of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), from July, 1974 to December, 1981. The objective was to evaluate the incidence and main alterations diagnosed by hysterosalpingography. The most frequent findings were tuboperitoneal factors in 91% of the examinations, uterine cavity abnormalities in 17.4% and cervical factor in 6.3% of the cases. The examinations showed a great incident of tuboperitoneal abnormalities as cause of sterility from lower social classes. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Transcriptionally active chromatin fibers were observed in chromosomes presenting the loops/scaffold configuration. The active fibers showed altered nucleosomes and presented multiforked aspects which led to the formation of ring complexes. The ribonucleoprotein transcripts (RNP) appeared as networks of 0.1 μm or multiples tandemly disposed along the fiber. It is suggested that the ring complexes belong to the human genome. The possibility that these circular structures come from a prokaryote is also considered. (author)

Esses cromossomos mostram configuracoes do tipo ''loops/scaffold''. (autor)Primary Subject
