AbstractAbstract
[en] The BO and B-barO mesons are thought to be linear combinations of the mass eigenstates, which may differ in mass. The components of different mass in the wavefunction have a time-dependent phase difference. Thus the probability to observe a BO or B-barO meson oscillates. The mixing parameter χ = Δ m/Γ gives the oscillation frequency, in terms of the lifetime τ of the meson, where Δ m and Γ are the mass difference and width of the mass eigenstates. Techniques for measuring the mixing parameters are discussed. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Full text: Investigating into fundamental quantum mechanical questions by studying photon systems has been a field of intensive research for some time now. While the experimental handling of these particles has come a long way, thus allowing for great flexibility in technical applications, some recent experiments have focused on answering specific questions by using massive meson-systems (CPLEAR, KLOE). The loss of entanglement, or decoherence, in flavor-entangled neutral B-mesons according to a quantum mechanically consistent model is the focal point of interest in the study presented. Data from the Japanese B-factory experiment BELLE at KEK is being used. The experimental challenges and their proper treatment are shown. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The BABAR detector, which operates at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider at energies near the γ (4S) resonance has collected about 23M BB-bar pairs in year 2000. Based on this data sample, we present a first study of sin 2β, with samples of B0 → J/ψKS0, B0→ ψ(2S)KS0 and B0→J/ψKL-0 decays. The measured value is sin 2β=0.34±0.20(stat)±0.05(syst). In addition, we present preliminary measurements of charged and neutral B meson lifetimes and B0B-bar0 oscillation frequency. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The goal of the SLAC B-Factory is to measure CP violation in the decay of B-mesons and to test the standard model description of CP violation. Work is now underway in upgrading the PEP collider for this project, and much of the preliminary detector design has been done. The physics goals and design of PEP-II are briefly discussed, and the current plans for the detector are outlined. copyright 1995 American Institute of Physics

AbstractAbstract
[en] The oscillation between the B0d - B-bar0d mesons is one of two examples of particle-antiparticle oscillation, a quantum phenomenon with macroscopic consequences, and the other being the K0 - K-bar0. This phenomenon has been first observed in the B system in 1987, by the ARGUS experiments, at DESY and U A1, CERN. Such phenomenon can be originated in quantum character of the physical states associated to the B0 s

[en] We give an estimate of the C-even B0 bar B0 background coming from the radiative decay Υ(4S)→B0 bar B0γ at B factories. Our result B(Υ(4S)→B0 bar B0γ)≅3x10-9 shows that such a background could be safely neglected in the analyses of CP-violating effects. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recently updated measurements of the B0antiB0 mixing parameter at the LEP storage ring are reported. The combined result from ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL dilepton analyses is χbar = 0.119 ± 0.012. The first observation of the time dependence of the B0antiB0 oscillations is presented. Clear evidence for the time-dependent nature of the B0dantiB0d oscillation has been found by the ALEPH collaboration, using the vertex structure and charge correlation in D*-lepton and dilepton events. The frequency extracted from a fit to the D*-lepton distribution corresponds to a mass difference between the B0d states, of 3.44 +0.65-0.70 (stat.) +0.26-0.20 (syst.).10-4 eV. 3 figs., 15 refs
