AbstractAbstract
[en] A fast valve injects gas transiently near the insulator in order to optimize pressures separately for breakdown and beam generation. On a different machine without gas injection the interaction of the ion beam with targets of variable thicknesses can be used to diagnose the beam

AbstractAbstract
[en] Neutron intensities, the spatial origin of the neutron emission, and the neutron energy spectra have been measured for PLT plasmas heated by deuterium neutral beams with Esub(beam)=25 to 41 keV. In these low-to-moderate density experiments [nsub(e)(0) approximately <5x1013 cm-3], the neutron emission is highly peaked on axis. Up to 1012 D-D neutrons per 0.1-s pulse have been obtained, which is 2 orders of magnitude greater than previously achieved in tokamak plasmas. The measured neutron intensity (up to 1x1013 n/s) is in reasonable agreement with predictions of a 1-D theoretical model for neutron production from beam-target and beam-beam reactions, over a range of beam power from 0.2 to 1.1 MW

AbstractAbstract
[en] Mechanisms for equilibrium poloidal electric field generation in neutral-beam heated tokamaks are identified and analysed, and predictions are made for the PDX, DIII, and ISX-B tokamaks. A toroidal outward shift of particle density is found to agree qualitatively with recent experimental observations in the PDX tokamak. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The aim of the present paper is to introduce the Swedish French Project and to explain its philosophy and expectations. We compare it to other injectors of the same family and underline the conceptual differences. Let us recall that the D- ions are obtained through the following reactions: [D2+ or D+ or D0] + [Cs or Na] → D-. The best rates are achieved with Cesium (approximately 30%) and incident ions of < 1 keV, but it is difficult to create convenient beams at such low energies. Therefore, sodium cells exhibing less efficiency (approximately 18%) are also utilized, because these rates are achieved with incident particle beams of 10 - 20 keV
