[en] Beam transport systems in which the two transverse degrees of freedom of particle motion (x and y) are coupled are often used to transport high-current, low-energy beams. Consideration of the matching problem for such systems requires a formalism for the description of the evolution of the beam envelope, including the effect of space charge. By defining a 4x4 beam covariance matrix, it is possible to give a simple prescription for following the rms beam ellipse through an arbitrary linear transport system, allowing the length of the axes of the ellipse and its angle of tilt to vary; the prescription trivially reproduces the usual K-V envelope equations in the decoupled case. The matching condition for the general coupled system is given, and the stability problem for the matched solution in the presence of space charge is formulated in general and discussed in a particular example. [en] It is well-known that the dependence of electron beam potential on its current is a two-valued function, i.e., in theory, there are two states of a beam with a given current. Only one of them corresponding to the lower density and higher velocity exhibits itself in both physical and computer experiments. Another beam state with higher density and lower velocity, which is called here a squeezed one, is usually supposed to be unstable. Moreover, it was not quite clear which way one could prepare such a state. In this paper the authors consider propagation of a high-current electron beam through the inhomogeneous transport system consisting of two coaxial tubes. It is shown that under some conditions the beam may be in its squeezed state. [en] For investigation of propagation dynamic of high power long pulse (0.3-1 ms) electron beam in vacuum within pressure 5*10^-5 divided-by 10 Torr two experimental installations were constructed: (1) Electron energy - 300 keV, current 30-100 A, pulse 0.35 ms long; (2) Electron energy 500-600 keV, current 30 divided-by 200 A, pulse 1 ms long. Two different macroinstabilities of the beam have been observed. One of them had frequences up to 10 MHz within pressure 5*10^-4 divided-by 1 Torr. Second had frequencies several kilohertz within pressure 5*10^-4-10^-1 Torr. When pressure was 5*10^-5 divided-by 5*10^-4 Torr monotonous increasing of beam diameter along transport way was observed depending on beam microinstability
