[en] The community participation is expected to realize the appropriate housing. But the financial condition does not support, so that appropriate housing to be half constructed, which eventually became jammed unsustainable. Lock-brick system building construction can be implemented for appropriate housing and water infrastructure, such as small ponds and retaining wall construction. Lock-bricks are made from soil as the main ingredients added a little cement, thoroughly mixed in dry conditions, has dampened with water to a level sufficiently moist. Then, pressed with a pressing machine to 60%, forming interlocked bricks when arranged to form the walls of the liveable house. Columns, beams or retaining walls can be constructed with this system. Similarly, other water basin infrastructure such as rainwater catchers-canals can be constructed with this system. Lock-brick systems are used for a wide range of building infrastructure while considering the strength of the structure, so as to meet the standards. Various examples of usability have been done for the simple building liveable housing, student dormitories building, rain water reservoir, runoff catchment canals, soil retaining walls, and pavement floor. The usability, simple, easy to make and cheap, making this lock-brick system can support the development of sustainable infrastructure and built environment. (paper)
[en] In 1976 two tile kilns with numerous wasters of ornamented tiles were excavated at Bistrup near Roskilde. Identical ornaments had earlier been found on floor-tiles from seven sites, mainly churches, in north and east Zealand. The question arose whether some of these tiles were made locally or whether all tiles carrying this particular ornamentation were made at Bistrup. Preliminary results obtained from a comparison of the tiles with material from Bistrup means of neutron activation analysis indicate that not all tiles were made at Bistrup. (author)

[en] The form-fitting brick allows to form simple geometric figures like straight lines, angles, polygons and crosses and to cover surfaces homogeneously without making use of another shape of brick. The brick has got superficies consisting of plane rectangular quadrangles part of which showing a concave connecting contour for the adjoining brick which has got a convex connecting contour. According to the invention both external ends of the concave connecting contours are shaped as reinforcing ribs. The bricks may be manufactured from concrete. The description mentions some variants. [de]Der Strahlenschutz-Formbaustein erlaubt es, einfache geometrische Figuren wie Geraden, Winkel, Vielecke und Kreise zu bilden und Flaechen homogen auszulegen, ohne dass auf eine andere Steinform zurueckgegriffen wird. Der Stein besitzt Mantelflaechen aus ebenen rechtwinkligen Vierecken, ein Teil der Mantelflaechen weist eine konkave Anschlusskontur fuer den benachbarten Stein auf, der eine entsprechende konvexe Anschlusskontur besitzt. Erfindungsgemaess sind die beiden aeusseren Enden der konkaven Anschlusskonturen als Verstaerkungsrippen ausgebildet. Die Steine koennen aus Beton ausgefuehrt werden. This approach enables one to construct a simple classification of brick tilings in Zd and to find new proofs of several classical results on brick packing and tilings in Zd. [en] Many buildings important for historical heritage preservation have visible cracks and exhibit damages on walls, lintels and balconies. Balconies as outer structural elements that protrude from walls are exposed to intense weather conditions, making them one of the most damaged parts of the buildings. Majority of balconies consist of steel beams interconnected with masonry. Often masonry is divided into segmental arched slabs that allow to extend the overall length of balconies spans. Methods of strengthening the balconies are still insufficiently developed. There are still shortcoming in the notion of balconies strength limit. Visible signs of cracking do not always mean that the balcony must be dismantled. Often just simple repairs are sufficient to maintain the structural integrity. There are no clearly specified how-to solutions that incorporate the preservation state of art. Article analyses the models of destruction of masonry arches commonly found in balconies. Tests were performed at West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. The tests were conducted on partial models of arched spans. Model were imposed with single downward axial force or force applied unsymmetrically. Study compares model with or without additional FRP mats. Repair solutions were proposed dependent on destruction type. (paper)

[en] Due to the new proposed Israeli approach for radioactivity in construction materials (IS 5098) issued in 2007, the radon emanation of a construction material, a brick in the form of a box (a rectangular parallelepiped), should be checked when its four faces are insulated in order to achieve the same simulation effect when a concrete block is embedded into a wall. A physical model was developed in order to measure the insulation level (quality) of a building product (bulk concrete, building block, tiles, etc.) when its four sides are insulated by various materials. Under the experimental conditions it was found that the insulation level for bulk concrete was 99.5 ± 0.04% which is in good agreement with the requirement of the new Israeli Standard IS 5098. The influence of aging of concrete materials on radon emanation and the emanation ratio, deduced from measurements of insulated and non-insulated materials, was investigated.
