In order to achieve simple handling during the preparation process, the heating furnace working by resistance heating can be charged vertically from above via an opening with the suction mould, which can be closed. The heating furnace can be rotated around a fixed point. [de]Die Vorrichtung weist einen widerstandsbeheizten Aufheizofen zur Aufnahme der Saugkokille auf. Um ein einfacheres Hantieren waehrend des Vorbereitungsverfahrens zu erreichen, ist der widerstandsbeheizte Aufheizofen vertikal von oben ueber eine verschliessbare Oeffnung mit der Saugkokille beladbar. Der Aufheizofen ist ueber einen ortsfesten Drehpunkt schwenkbar. An seinem unteren Ende weist der Aufheizofen ein aufklappbares Endteil auf, in dessen Bereich das Saugrohrende mit dem Evakuierungsstutzen der eingeladenen Saugkokille vorhanden ist. (orig./HP)
[en] The aim of this study is to evaluate the behavior of glass powder waste as alkaline activator of slag when both are used in blended cement. The slag blended cement was prepared with 70% slag, and then the slag was replaced with 10-20% glass powder by mass. The self-activation concept is here introduced. Ground glass releases alkalis through dissolution in a slow and sustained way over time. This would activate slag. Ground glass improves fluidity of mortars and the compressive strength overcomes dilution and increases with age due to the combined pozzolanic action of slag and glass. The proposed blended cement has better mechanical properties than slag-cement. The proposed blended cement has better mechanical properties than slag-cement and due to less use of slag, it becomes more sustainable and it contributes to waste management.
[es]El objetivo del presente trabajo es evaluar el comportamiento de un residuo molido de vidrio como activador interno de la escoria cuando ambos son usados en un cemento mezcla. El cemento de escoria fue preparado con un 70% de escoria y luego la escoria se reemplazó en un 10 y 20% en masa por vidrio molido. Este trabajo introduce el concepto de autoactivación. El vidrio molido libera álcalis por disolución, en forma lenta y sostenida en el tiempo que activarían la escoria. La presencia de vidrio molido mejora la fluidez de los morteros y la resistencia a compresión supera la dilución y crece con la edad por la acción puzolánica combinada de la escoria y el vidrio. El cemento mezcla propuesto tiene mejores propiedades mecánicas que el cemento de escorias pero con menor contenido de escoria por lo que es más sustentable y contribuye al manejo de residuos.

[en] Nd2O5 were sucessfully melted in a furnace under He inert atmosphere. After melting, the glasses presented refractive index about 1,73 +- 0,01, free of bubbles with good homogeneity. The only problem was the yellow colour produced by impurities originating in the niobium. To Brazil, this glass has strategic importance, because the world largest niobum resources are founded in Brazil and other glass components, as P2O5 and PbO are also easily founded. (Author)
[pt]Foram realizadas, com sucesso, fusoes de vidro a base de Nb2O5 em forno de radio frequencia e atmosfera inerte de helio. Os vidros, apos fusao, apresentaram indice de refracao de 1,73+- 0,01, livre de bolhas e com otima homogeneidade. O unico inconveniente foi a coloracao amarela, proveniente tanto de impurezas como do proprio niobio. Este vidro tem importancia estrategica a nivel brasileiro, pois as maiores jazidas mundiais de niobio encontram-se no pais, e outros constituintes, como P2O5 PbO sao tambem facilmente encontrados. [en] Operation of a submerged bed scrubber has been characterized well enough to accurately estimate the collection efficiency for aerosols in an off-gas treatment system. The device has the advantages of a high degree of reliability and minimal control requirements. Correlations have been developed that allow direct specification of the design variables that are required to achieve a desire collection efficiency. The decontamination factors achievable through proper design and efficient operation are well within the acceptable range for a primary scrubber in nuclear off-gas treatment systems
[en] New and existing instrumentation for the monitoring and control of the liquid-fed ceramic melter (LFCM) process have been tested and evaluated. The use of thermocouples for the monitoring of the glass melting process to assure a quality product and to monitor the condition of the melter equipment is well developed. Additional information about the operation of the melter including foaming, feeding, and cold cap coverage can be obtained from the temperature data. A melter viewing system consisting of an infrared camera and associated electronics has been demonstrated to provide clear pictures of the melter interior and cold cap surface during melter operation. The pneumatic level detection system functions well for measuring glass specific gravity and glass level in the melter. Further testing is needed to assess its capabilities for indicating overfeeding, bridging of the cold cap, and foaming. Acoustic monitoring was examined for detection of foaming and overfeeding, and time domain reflectometry was considered for detection of glass level, foaming, and salt formation
