[en] The level structure of 59Co has been examined using the sum-coincidence technique. Sum-coincidence spectra at 1482, 1434, and 1291.6 keV sum gates were recorded to establish the presence of a weak 189 keV gamma ray between the 1482 and 1291.6 keV states, which is very close to the intense 192 keV gamma ray. [en] Mean values of lifetime for some levels of 59Co have been reported in several publications, but the results of measurement (or estimates) of the lifetime of the 2913-keV level cannot be found in any of these works. The probability of populating this level in the (n, n' γ) reaction is low, but, nevertheless, Kaipov et al. have determined its spin and parity and ascribed the value 7/2+ to these quantities. The authors report a measurement of the lifetime of the 2913-keV level. 8 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab

[en] A precise determination of the coherent scattering length of Co with a neutron interferometer yields a value bsub(C)sub(o)=2.53(5) fm. It agrees well with the value 2.5(1) fm measured by Moon from diffraction work, but there is a disagreement with a value proposed by Koester et al. based on the Christiansen filter method. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The levels in 59Co and 63Cu have been investigated by means of Coulomb excitation with 4.0-4.5 MeV protons. The levels at 1743 and 2153 keV in 59Co and the levels at 1412 and 1542 keV in 63Cu have been observed in Coulomb excitation work for the first time. The reduced E2 transition probabilities B(E2)'s for these levels have been extracted and the results are discussed. (auth.)
