AbstractAbstract
[en] The technological procedure of the production of the sealed radioactive sources of 60 Co can for some purposes be successfully performed by using the spent sources. So these sources which lost their applicability for the give purpose (mainly due to the radioactive decay of 60 Co) can be used for the preparation of new sources for the applications for which their activity is sufficient. The technological procedure has to adapted for the use of the old sources. The first step is the construction of the appropriate container for the storage of the old sources. The preparation of the new source in most cases demands the opening of the old one by cutting the capsule. This is the critical moment as the contact of the tool and the radioactive material would result in gross contamination. The released radioactive material is packed into the new capsule.(author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Proper evaluation about the penumbra is very important to improve the efficacy of radiation therapy. There are two kinds of physical penumbra, geometric penumbra and transmission penumbra. In this study, we evaluated the variation of physical penumbra according to the varing energy level, changing the field size and depth. Physical penumbra width was decreased as the source size decreased, and as the SDD increased, but the consideration about the scatter radiation and mechanical stability is an important factor. For the two adjacent beams, upper collimator should be used and especially for Co-60 unit, it is efficient to use the extended collimator
