AbstractAbstract
[en] After several incidents of blown port plugs in used and new perforating guns, a study was initiated to determine the causes of plug loss. The study included an examination of the swelling characteristics of a heavy-wall, reusable perforating gun, an examination of new guns from which plug loss had and had not occurred, and construction of a port-plug test cell in which plug loss factors could be studied. The results of the study identified at least three major factors and nine minor factors that could operate singly or jointly to contribute to plug loss

AbstractAbstract
[en] This patent describes a packer for running on coiled tubing inside a well tubing that can be set by reciprocation of the tubing. It comprises a mandrel for attaching to the end of the coiled tubing, a lower packer head attached to the mandrel, an annular packing element on the mandrel supported by the packer head, an upper packer head having a conical outer surface, a slip assembly carried by the mandrel and including slips and means for engaging the well tubing and frictionally resisting movement of the slip means through the well casing, and means connecting the slip assembly to the mandrel to limit upward movement of the slip means relative to the mandrel as the packer is being run into the well tubing and upon reciprocation of the mandrel for allowing the mandrel to move upwardly moving the outer conical surface of the upper packer head under the slips forcing the slips into engagement with the well tubing to hold the upper packer head against further upward movement to allow continued upward movement of the mandrel to compress the packing element between the upper and lower packer heads and force the packing element into sealing engagement with the mandrel and the well tubing

[en] The US uranium industry can be compared to someone who has been through a serious accident or trauma; the patient is in a coma, but the vital signs are still there. Though the industry is weak, some exploration and development drilling is still underway, and the industry can return to health if no further complications occur

[en] Prices for the rent of a drilling ship are very high. Per day the rent is 1% of the price for building such a ship, and those prices have risen as well. Still, it is attractive for oil companies to rent a drilling ship

AbstractAbstract
[en] This report is the status art report on re-instrumentation. The main techniques described in this report are technology that is developed in Norway HALDEN and domestic research facilities. Although re-instrumentation is not gone vigorously after 1990, HALDEN's re-instrumentation equipment was made until recently. In the meantime, re-instrumentation research was gone in domestic, but irradiation test did not performed actually. But DUPIC fuel irradiation is similar to re-instrumentation, so the irradiation test can be utilized directly to the Fuel Test Loop

AbstractAbstract
[en] Cone Penetrometer Technology is becoming more common for site characterization activities as its advantages (e.g. increased speed, lower cost, reduced drilling waste) over conventional drilling technologies has been demonstrated. Although CPT offers many benefits, it can be improved to offer increased utility and cost savings with the development of an innovative wireline system. The wireline cone penetrometer system consists of an assortment of tools that can be pushed using standard CPT rigs and equipment. The novel aspect of this approach is that various tools can be placed at the tip of the rod string depending on the time of information or sample desired. Tools can be swapped at any depth and different tools can be used for penetration or retraction. Wireline CPT allows nearly all work to be accomplished in a single penetration, as opposed to the multiple penetrations currently conducted if more than one kind of data is required

AbstractAbstract
[en] The relevance of the research is specified by the necessity to optimize the delft mobile tunneling equipment operation. Target of the research is tunneling time cycle justification for the special crew during the mining mobile machine complex operation. Methods of the research included the consideration of operation organization schemes in the drifting face and effective use of the mobile equipment during mine exploratory working operations. Time cycle calculation procedures for major processes have been considered. This has been done for the special crew during the mobile machine complex operations for several working faces and various organization schemes

AbstractAbstract
[en] The success of Dreco Rig Systems, a division of National Oilwell Canada Ltd., in becoming the foremost international designers and manufacturers of offshore drilling equipment is discussed. Dreco has been at the same Edmonton location since 1972, starting out as a rig mast repair shop, eventually expanding into building components such as draw-works and mud pumps and still later to full-blown drilling rigs. Following the drastic curtailment of exploration in Alberta in 1982, the company began specializing in high-end equipment for international markets for use in some of the most extreme environments in the world, including offshore, Arctic, desert and jungle terrain. Today, the Edmonton and Nisku facilities of the company subcontract 61,000 man-hours of employment per month, and turn out some 7,000 tons of fabricated steel annually. Most notable accomplishments include the rig towers for the Hibernia platform, various unconventional offshore units used in exploration in the high Arctic, the jack-up rig packages for the Sable Offshore Energy Project, and the drilling package on the Royal Dutch Shell Troll natural gas platform, considered to be the largest gravity-based offshore platform in the world. Additional design and manufacturing of equipment was done for Syncrude Canada, Imperial Oil Resources at Cold Lake, and parts for the Epcor Genesse electrical generating station west of Edmonton. The company's latest project is a 1,000-horse power wheeled rig for use in the desert of Oman, a project which adds considerably to the company's reputation for innovation and design of equipment for use in extreme environments
