AbstractAbstract
[en] The 5. meeting 'microprobe' was dealing with applications of the electron microprobe analysis in numerous studies of solids, of the chemical composition, structure, and surface properties of materials, semiconductors, and minerals, and in quantitative chemical analysis. 85 summaries of poster contributions and 23 summaries of papers are included

AbstractAbstract
[en] Structural, ultrastructural, microradiographic, and electron microprobe studies of an unusual case of odontodysplasia were performed. Two cusps were absent from one molar. Normal prismatic enamel and mantle dentin were present on the two others. The dentinal mass resembled osteodentin. The mineral content of enamel and dentin was decreased compared to that of the controls

AbstractAbstract
[en] The application of Be-metal as a coating material in quantitative electron-beam-microanalysis of electrically non-conducting samples is investigated. Relative intensity losses of C-Kα-, O-Kα-, Si-Kα-, Cu-Kα- and Cu-Lα- radiation resulting from the absorption of electron energy and characteristic X-rays is determined as a function of film-thickness. Measured values are compared with those calculated with an equation developed by Kerrick et al. Experimental intensity losses are less than calculated ones especially in cases when electron absorption is predominant over X-ray absorption. Beryllium coating has advantages compared to carbon coating if low-energy X-radiation is measured using low acceleration potential. Exceptions are B-Kα- and C-Kα-line measurements because of their high mass-attenuation coeficients in Beryllium. (author)

[en] Welded breccias and faults in Muong Nong-type indochinite tektites from Thailand are illustrated. Electron probe analyses of these tektites show somewhat higher Al and alkalies in light-colored layers, and somewhat higher Si and Ca in dark-colored layers

[en] It is shown that the grazing-incidence grating monochromator with the crossed mirror-grating X-ray optics and a windowless electron multiplier can be used effectively in the electron probe analyser for microanalysis of beryllium. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A user-oriented software system for electron microprobes is described. The TASK automation program which provides instrument control and data collection is also capable of calling auxiliary programs which can provide quantitative data reduction, editing, plotting, summary, and statistical analysis capabilities. Qualitative analysis auxiliary capabilities include digital electronic scanning of the beam, mechanical scanning of the stage and the wavelength dispersive (WDS) spectrometers, identification of energy dispersive (EDS) peaks, low magnification x-ray mapping (which requires synchronous scanning of the spectrometers and the electron beam) and particle characterization. A disk operating system facilitates loading, exchanging, and saving of programs and data

AbstractAbstract
[en] We determined the Na/K x-ray intensity ratio in frozen sections of myocardial tissues obtained at autopsy from patients who died from various causes, using electron probe analysis. We have been able to distinguish between the ischemically injured and normal cells. The method is simple, fast, and dependable even when the duration of ischemia is only 30 minutes
