AbstractAbstract
[en] A survey of the performance of large NEC accelerators is presented with emphasis on voltage performance and corona voltage distribution systems. The RF impedance of combinations of accelerator tube, closed corona tube and column is discussed. The role played by SF6 break-down products on corona systems is explored and new observations of deposits on corona needle tips are shown. Expectations of future performance of large NEC machines are given

AbstractAbstract
[en] SNEAP 82, the annual meeting of the Symposium of Northeast Accelerator Personnel, was held at the Seattle Center in Seattle, Washington on October 6-9, 1982. It was organized by the University of Washington Nuclear Physics Laboratory. A total of 73 participants represented 43 labs and companies from 8 countries. It is clear that SNEAP remains Northeast for purely historical reasons. This proceedings of SNEAP 82 was prepared from two sources, manuscripts of papers presented at the meeting, prepared by the speakers themselves, and tapes of discussions held during the sessions. The transcriptions of the tapes have been edited to improve readability and clarity, with attention to preserving the flavor of the meeting. The content of the papers is the responsibility of the authors; the content of the discussions as transcribed here is partly the responsibility of the editor, who may not have understood every thing that was going on

AbstractAbstract
[en] The electrostatic accelerator, 3 MV tandem accelerator, 3 MV single end accelerator and 400 kV ion implantation equipment, which were installed in Takasaki Ion Irradiation Research Facility (TIARA) of Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, have been used for the research on the advanced utilization of radiation mainly in material science by ion beam. The utilization is open to other researchers, and in fiscal year 1995, about 40% was the utilization by outsiders. The number of the experimental subjects adopted in fiscal year 1995 was 47, and the fields of research were space and environment materials, nuclear fusion reactor materials, new functional materials, biotechnology and base technology. The operation time in fiscal year 1995 was 1201, 1705 and 1505 hours for the tandem accelerator, single end accelerator and ion implantation equipment, respectively. The methods of experiment are reported. The troubles occurred in the tandem accelerator and single end accelerator are reported. As the diversification of beam utilization in the tandem accelerator, the utilizations of high energy molecular ions, low energy negative ions, multivalent ions by post stripper and low intensity ions by mesh attenuator have been attempted. These utilizations are described. (K.I.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A cryogenic pump is described, specially designed to be used in an electrostatic particle accelerator. The same tubular liquid helium bath provides pumping in the accelerating tube and around the beam. The temperature of the bath can be adjusted between 2.2 and 4.2 deg K, the liquid helium level, in the low pressure bath, is keeped constant through a feeding system made of an heat exchanger and an expansion valve. An auxiliary container for liquid nitrogen and liquid helium, at atmospheric pressure, allows a several days continuous run without filling. This system allows refilling of the container without changing the pressure on the bath

AbstractAbstract
[en] A description is given of a null balance type generating voltmeter for measuring high D.C. voltage upto about 400 kV. The paper discusses the principle of operation, design, calibration and performance of the instrument. Main advantages of the device are: (1) it does not load the high voltage source, (2) no physical connection is required with the H.T. terminal and (3) calibration is independent of the rotor's frequency and amplifier's gain.
