AbstractAbstract
[en] Inclusion complexation of 4-biphenylcarboxylate (BPC-), 4-biphenylacetate (BPA-), and 4-biphenylsulfonate (BPS-) with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) has been investigated by a pulse radiolysis method. The one-electron reduction of BPC- and BPS- by the hydrated electron was effectively retarded by the 1:2 complexation with α-CD as well as by the 1:1 complexation with β-CD investigated in our previous study. The retarding effect of α-CD was observed at much higher host concentrations than that of β-CD. No apparent effect of α-CD was observed on the one-electron reduction of BPA-, but the effect of β-CD was similar to those for BPC- and BPS-. The result indicates that the methylene group of BPA- sterically inhibits the formation of the 1:2 complex. The rate constant for the one-electron reduction of the 1:2 complex of BPC- with α-CD was 1.0x109dm3mol-1s-1, which is smaller than that of the 1:1 complex with β-CD, 2.5x109dm3mol-1s-1. It is demonstrated that the biphenyl group of the 1:2 complex with α-CD is screened from the attack of the hydrated electron more effectively than that of the 1:1 complex with β-CD. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A two-step synthesis of three carbonate and four carbamate esters labeled at the carbonyl with carbon-14 is described. The method utilizes the readily available [14C]-phosgene which is first converted to an isolable [14C]-labeled alkyl or aryl chloroformate and subsequently reacted with the appropriate alcohol or amine to give the corresponding ester. AbstractAbstract
[en] A coking coal, La Vega (LVF) was oxidized, giving a sample without caking properties (LVO). The changes of the plastic properties such as, dilatation, softening point with oxidation time shows that they are due lo different causes. The coal samples were extracted with aqueous and organic solvents. The extractability with THF and Pyridine shows important differences. The FTIR spectra of coals and extraction residues shows different oxygen functions such aliphatic esters, carboxylic acids and lost of side chains on aromatic groups

[en] This paper compares the general properties of a chinesemade cellulose nitrate and two kinds of cellulose acetate films with different thickness in discriminating α particles from protons. The 140 μm cellulose acetate film has finally been selected as the solid state track detector used in nuclear lifetime measurement by the blocking effect

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new radiation-curable composition for coating metallic surfaces is provided. The composition is prepared by dissolving 30 to 70 parts of diallyl phthalate prepolymer into 70 to 30 parts of an alkyl acrylate/acrylonitrile mixture, followed by adding 0.005 to 0.05 mol of reactive vinyl phosphate and pigment or the like per 100 g of the resin solution. Upon irradiation with electron beams (6 Mrad) the composition cures perfectly in air to give a coating of high adhesion and high corrosion resistance. In one example (parts), a coating composition was prepared by blending diallyl phthalate prepolymer (IV 56, hardening pt. 90 to 950C) (50), n-Bu acrylate (40), acrylonitrile (10), phosphate of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (3), black iron oxide (15) and benzoyl peroxide (2). A sand-papered light steel plate was coated with the composition and irradiated with electron beams (6 Mrad) in N2. Peel test with cellophane tape: peeling 0%. Impact resistance (Du Pont): no peeling, no cracks. Immersion in salt water (3% NaCl, 200C, 120 hrs): no bulge, no stain. Immersion in xylene (200C, 120 hrs): slight swelling, no bulge, no peeling. AbstractAbstract
[en] Uranium in a phosphoric acid solution is recovered by solvent extraction. The organic solvent used comprises a system of extractants constituted by an acid organophosphorus compound selected from dialkyl phosphoric acid, dialkyl or diaryl phosphonic acid, and a neutral phosphine oxide in which the radicals bonded to phosphorus are identical or different alkyl, aryl or alkoxyalkyl radicals with at least one being an alkoxyalkyl radical
