AbstractAbstract
[en] The possibility of constructing an international air shower observatory in the Himalayas is explored. A site at about 6500 m elevation (450 g/cm2) would provide more definitive measurements of composition and early interaction properties of primaries above 1016 eV than can be achieved with existing arrays. By supplementing a surface array with a Fly's Eye and muon detectors, information on the highest energy cosmic rays may be gained which is not possible in any other way. Potential sites, technical aspects, and logistical problems are explored

AbstractAbstract
[en] It is shown that the conventional picture of Poissonian fluctuations of the density flux is true at moderate core distance. On this basis the simulation was carried out taking into account the primary spectrum and lateral distribution function (LDF) fluctuations. Analysis of lateral distribution is described and the appropriate results are summarized

AbstractAbstract
[en] The results of further investigation of muon pairs near the EAS axis registered by spark chambers are presented with better statistics. The aim of the analysis were correlations of muon pairs with hadron cascades in above ground ionization calorimeter as well as with some parameters of EAS. The results don't contradict the previous conclusion about increasing cross-section of muon pairs production by hadrons with energies about 10 TeV as compared with accelerators data up to 2 TeV. However considerable part of muon pairs may be connected with interactions in dense matter of long living new heavy particles. These particles are created in air nuclear cascades initiated by primaries with energies > or approximately= 5.1015 eV

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fluctuation of energy flow near the core of EAS was studied in connection with the size and the age parameter of EAS. EAS with size 105 - 2 x 105 have larger fluctuation of energy flow than that expected statistically from EAS with size > = 2 x 105. The former EAS are classified into two groups, that is, those having smaller energy flow and larger s (age parameter), and others having larger energy flow and smaller s. Meanwhile, in EAS with size > = 2 x 105 fluctuation of energy flow decreases with increasing size, and the proportion of EAS which correspond to the latter group of EAS with size 105 - 2 x 105 increases. These results seem to reflect a possible change of the chemical composition of primary cosmic rays near 2 x 106 GeV

AbstractAbstract
[en] Using Tien-Shan installation the lateral and energy characteristics of the hadron component of EAS with the energy more than 1013 eV have been studied. The results are compared with those obtained at the same installation on showers at the energy more than 1014 eV and with the calculation where psub(t)=0.4 GeV/c was taken. The conclusion is that the hadron characteristics are in accordancee with the calculation up to the energy 1014 eV, while there is the discrepancy at greater energies
