[en] The throw- away adsorption column, usable in analysis apparatus working with centrifugal forces, consists of a column of glass or polystyrene with a sieve expanded head section and a tapered bottom section. The column is filled with an aqueous running slurry of cross-linked α-1,6-polyglucose whose gel particles have an average particle size of 20 - 80 micron. Two retaining members hold back this filling in the column where the foils are each placed at the transfer between column and head or floor section. The retaining members consist of highly dense porous polyethylene with a porosity of up to 30 micron. The hydrophiliation treatment of the retaining members or foils is carried out by means of chromic acid following washing in vacuum with acetone and then water. The head and floor sections are closed by stoppers. (HP)

Die Wegwerf-Adsorptionssaeule, welche in Analysiergeraeten verwendbar sind, die mit Zentrifugalkraeften arbeiten, besteht aus einer Saeule aus Glas oder Polystyrol mit einem sich erweiternden Kopfteil und einem sich verjuengenden Bodenteil. Die Saeule wird mit einer waessrigen Gelaufschlaemmung von vernetzter α-1,6-Polyglukose, deren Gelteilchen eine mittlere Teilchengroesse von 20 - 80 Mikron aufweisen, gefuellt. Diese Fuellung halten zwei Rueckhatleglieder in der Saeule, wobei die Folien jeweils an den Uebergaengen zwischen Saeule und Kopf bzw. Bodenteil angeordnet sind. Die Rueckhalteglieder bestehen aus hochdichtem poroesem Polyaethylen mit einer Porositaet bis zu 30 Mikron. Die Hydrophilierungsbehandlung der Rueckhalteglieder - bzw. folien erfolgt mittels Chromsaeure, nachdem sie unter Vakuum mit Aceton und dann mit H2O gewaschen wurden. [en] This work analyses the effect of the incorporation of a second column of extraction by solvents in pulsed plate columns in the Process of Uranium Purification. Operating with the aqueous phase of washing this second column of extraction recovers the dragged Uranium, increasing the efficiency of the process. The experiments were carried out in the display unit of Uranium purification in the Institute of Energetic and Nuclear Researches in Sao Paulo, where the dimension and the performance were studied with the following parameters: real increase in the efficiency and decontamination in the process. An efficiency superior to 98% in mass was obtained against 84,6% in the conventional process. With a performance similar to the first column of extract on the decontamination, about 99%, obtained in this column, maintained the grade of nuclear purity peculiar to the Process of Uranium Purification by solvents in pulsed plate columns. O presente trabalho analisou o efeito da incorporacao de uma segunda Coluna de Extracao no processo de purificacao de Uranio por solventes em colunas pulsadas. Operando com a fase aquosa de lavagem, esta segunda Coluna de Extracao recupera o Uranio arrastado, aumentando o rendimento do processo. As experiencias foram executadas na unidade de demonstracao de purificacao de Uranio da Coordenadoria de Engenharia Quimica do Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares, onde foi estudado o dimensionamento e o comportamento da coluna com os seguintes parametros: aumento real no rendimento e descontaminacao no processo. Obteve-se um rendimento superior a 98% em massa contra 84,6% alcancado no processo convencional. Com um comportamento similar a primeira Coluna de Extracao, a descontaminacao em torno de 97% alcancada nesta segunda mantem o grau de pureza nuclear peculiar ao processo de purificacao de Uranio por solventes em colunas pulsadas. AbstractAbstract
[en] Rapid methods have been developed for the retention and concentration of radio-iodine. Radio-iodine in the iodide form was retained by precipitate exchange on a column of silver chloride precipitated onto polyurethane foam. For large volumes of sample it was expedient to liberate iodide in the form of iodine, which was then steam-distilled or expelled by carbon-dioxide and collected on a column of polyurethane foam impregnated with colloidal silver. The best way to measure the activity was to compress the foam and use a well-type NaI(Tl) detector. A thorough study was made of methods for digestion of various foodstuffs without loss of iodine. The time of digestion was reduced significantly by the addition of sodium hypochlorite or magnesium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide, even with samples as large as 5-1000g. (auth.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Reciprocating sieve plate extraction column (RPEC) is an extraction equipment to achieve high performance by mechanical stirring. Reciprocating plate extraction column has unique advantages when applied in natural uranium industry. Compared to pulsed-sieve-plate extraction column, reciprocating plate column has many merits, such as lower energy consumption, more stable operation and stronger self-cleaning capacity. Calculation for typical examples shows that energy loss of reciprocating plate column is far less than that of pulsed-sieve-plate column with the same specification when used for extraction and purification of natural uranium, which means better economic benefits. Efforts have been made to improve the structure of the transmission device of reciprocating plate column, that is, the double bearings is used instead of single bearing, which significantly enhance the reliability of equipment running. Feasibility of installing of energy-saving springs is also discussed, and the energy-saving effect has been preliminary evaluated. (authors)
