AbstractAbstract
[en] An arrangement of six quadrupole magnets is described which provides completely independent control of the horizontal and vertical phase-space parameters in a beam of charged particles from an accelerator. In fact the system requires only two quadrupole field strengths to be altered to adjust the horizontal size of the final waist, while the vertical waist size remains completely unaffected. Another two quadrupoles control the vertical parameters similarly. This results in a considerable simplification in manual tuning of beam parameters, even when computer-controlled or computer-assisted tuning has been used. The positioning of these quadrupoles can easily be determined using analytic techniques, and the relevant formulae have been derived and evaluated for a number of specific cases. Non-coincident horizontal and vertical initial waists (slits) have also been considered. The versatility of this system is demonstrated by means of beam envelope plots derived from a program using a matrix representation of beam transport elements

AbstractAbstract
[en] This report discusses the power supply and quench protection system selected for the MICE superconducting coupling and focusing magnets. First, the MICE focusing and coupling magnet parameters are presented. Second, the report describes passive quench protection systems for these focusing and coupling magnets. Thermal quench-back from the magnet mandrel, which is a key to the MICE magnet quench protection system, is also discussed. A system of diodes and resistors is used to control the voltage to ground as the magnet quenches. Third, the report presents the magnet power supply parameters for MICE magnets

AbstractAbstract
[en] The dependence of the spectral brilliance on the field index has been theoretically studied in the case of weak focussing electron storage rings for synchrotron radiation. The calculations have been done for the electron storage ring consisting of a ring magnet. The spectral brilliance is found to be maximum at the field index of 0.5 when the current is independent of lattice parameters. (author). 2 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Analytical expressions for magnetic deflection angles and dispersion are compared for schemes with a sextupole magnet. Dispersion in the field of the sextupole maqnet is shown to be always greater for a divergent entering beam in comparison with a convergent entering beam. With the increase of the magnet deflection this difference increases. It is indicated that the obtained results may be used when choosinq schemes with a sextupole magnet in the experiments with molecular beams

AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention refers to a method and an arrangement for influencing and guiding a high-energy particle beam accelerated in a cyclotron. The aim is to generate a focussed particle beam at the direction of emission from the cyclotron by a large compensation of the fringing magnetic field effects of the cyclotron magnet. The arrangement has an electrostatic quadrupole singlet at the cyclotron-sided end of the beam guiding system. The axis of the escaping particle beam corresponds to the axis of the quadrupole singlet approximately. It is favourable that the quadrupole singlet electrodes have a bend adapted to the beam axis

[en] Compared to the more standardized radiographic imaging with the Bucky table or with a Bucky wall stand, serial radiography has the advantage of allowing the time of exposure and image projection to be chosen individually. The DISTATOR now is the device that helps to avoid some of the disadvantages of the technique. (orig.)

(orig.)Original Title

AbstractAbstract
[en] In a recent paper the author proposed a self-focusing theory based on linear stability analysis of a quasi-optical equation. Strictly, the theory applies only to a plane wave of infinite aperture. In this paper the theory is extended to beams of finite aperture, which may be initially convergent or divergent. (U.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The extent of the useful aperture of a beam handling quadrupole magnet of the variable energy cyclotron at Calcutta is about 6 cms, but the extent of the beam in radial plane near the entrance to the quadrupole is at least 10 cm i.e. it exceeds the size of the useful aperture. This creates the problem of phase space distortion decreasing the efficiency of the beam transport line and the usable beam. To correct this problem, a triplet bar has been used as a magnetic focusing channel. The magnetic field induced due to this bar in the median plane is shown in a figure and advantages of its use are described. (M.G.B.)
