Experimental studies of these effects could improve the current upper limit on the electron EDM by several orders of magnitude. [en] A series of one-dimensional heteroepitaxial all-garnet magneto-optical photonic crystals (MOPCs) were pulsed laser deposited to operate at 550 and 470 nm wavelength. We explored the concept of blue shift of the optical absorption edge of ferric ions by substituting Fe with Ga on the tetrahedral sites as well as Bi and Y, respectively, with Ca and Ce at the dodecahedral coordinated positions. 17-layered [Y2Ce1Fe5O12/Gd3Ga5O12] MOPC with a total thickness of 968 nm demonstrates superior magneto-optical performance: Faraday rotation ΘFmax = + 2.0° and transmittance as high as 0.35 at the resonance wavelength of 470 nm. - Highlights: ► (Bi,Ca)3Fe5O12, Bi3(Fe,Ga)5O12, and (Y,Ce)3Fe5O12 garnets in photonic crystals. ► Green and blue light graded magneto-optical photonic crystals. ► Bi3Fe5O12 garnet shows superior green light Faraday rotation. ► (Y,Ce)3Fe5O12 garnet is a principal material for blue light magneto-optics.
[en] The field induced magnetocrystalline anisotropy of Ho3+ in Aluminium garnet was measured by the torque method at 4.20K in magnetic fields up to 70 kOe and compared to the magnetization. The exponent of the power law, kappa4 varies as m/sup n/, was found to be 4 when m is small and to approach gradually to 10 as m was increased, as has been predicted by Callen and Callen; this measurement is the first confirmation of the power law of the field induced anisotropy
[en] In the paper it has been investigated influence of crystallographic anisotropy of cubic ferrites on behaviour of surface magnetostatic spin waves (SMSW). Properties of SMSW were studied in application of monocrystalline yttrium iron garnet films. In detail it has been considered behaviour of SMSW in tangentially magnetized films with crystallographic orientation of [ab0] type. In these films it has been detected a strong anisotropy of temperature drift for frequencies of SMSW spectrum. It has been established interrelation between temperature dependences for frequencies of natural oscillations of magnetization in monocrystalline ferromagnetic film and field parameters of crystallographic magnetic anisotropy. It has been shown that condition of thermostability for SMSW frequencies can be obtained in low-magnetized fields. (authors)
[en] Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) powder was successfully synthesized by a novel solid state reaction method. The starting materials including: yttrium oxide (Y2O3), boehmite (AlOOH) and cerium chloride (CeCl3.7H2O) are pre-aged at pH 1, 2 and 3, respectively, before calcining. According to the experimental results, the case of pre-aging at pH 1 is the best condition for the formation of YAG powder. The particle size of Y2O3 and AlOOH are reduced by the pre-aging at pH 1. It induces to shorten the diffusion distance of the solid state reaction. The pre-aging at pH 1 process leads the formation of YAG powder via solid state reaction more easily. The emission intensity of the product was increased by the decrease of the pre-aging pH, the increase of the calcination temperature and the increase of the heating time

In the work the connection between facet crystal structure of elastically strained ferrite garnets films and the domain structure in them is established by methods of phase contrast and polarization microscopy. [en] The Sm–Nd isotope ages of apoamphibolite eclogites and eclogite-like garnet-clinopyroxene crystalline schists collected in the Chupa and Engozero segments of the Belomorian mobile belt are estimated. Eclogites and eclogite-like garnet–clinopyroxene rocks demonstrated nearly the same isotope age (2119 ± 170 and 2191 ± 39 Ma, respectively) on the same pair of minerals (garnet–clinopyroxene). The age obtained (about 2.1 Ga) is the oldest indicator of the onset of Paleoproterozoic metamorphism in the Belomorian mobile belt.

It is also possible to probe for nuclear anapole moments in a solid state experiment. We suggest such NMR-type experiment and perform estimates of the expected results
