AbstractAbstract
[en] A 365 mm diameter goniometric chamber with two axes capable to an accuracy of the order of 0.01 deg has been designed and constructed for various nuclear reaction experiments. Two rotation arms carry the counters at adjustable radii. The arms are externally rotated and the angular position is read on an electric readout panel. The construction details of the goniometric chamber together with some experimental results obtained in 3 years of utilization such as cross section and channeling measurements are described. AbstractAbstract
[en] Observations made on 10 July 1972, using four goniometer (direction-finding) VLF receivers established in eastern Canada, have been analyzed. The regions where multicomponent, two-hop whisters emerge from the ionosphere into the earth-ionosphere waveguide have been found by triangulation, for the first time. For recordings made before the total solar eclipse, the L-values of the whistler exit points determined by triangulation are consistently lower, by about 0.7 of an L-value, than those determined from their nose frequencies. This discrepancy cannot be fully accounted for by the effect of the ring current. In order to explain it, it is postulated that on this occasion the electron-density trough in the topside ionosphere lies at a lower L-value than that of the plasma-pause. Ray-tracing studies show that, on the high-latitude side of the trough, the waves are refracted to higher L-values before becoming ducted. Thus the multigoniometer technique is proving to be a powerful method of studying both temporal and spatial variations of the ionospheric and magnetospheric plasmas. Networks of goniometers should be established during IMS

AbstractAbstract
[en] It is not a simple task to measure a contact angle of a water drop on a superhydrophobic surface with sessile drop method, because a roll-off angle is very low. Usually contact angle of a water drop on a superhydrophobic surface is measured by fixing a drop with intentional defects on the surface or a needle. We examined the effects of drop size and measuring condition such as the use of a needle or defects on the static contact angle measurement on superhydrophobic surface. Results showed that the contact angles on a superhydrophobic surface remain almost constant within intrinsic measurement errors unless there is a wetting transition during the measurement. We expect that this study will provide a deeper understanding on the nature of the contact angle and convenient measurement of the contact angle on the superhydrophobic surface.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The crystal is fastened in an all-round-goniometer and cooled by means of a fluid coolant and dry gas. To prevent a frosting of the crystal support and of the head part of the goniometer a conical plate stays between the goniometer head part and the crystal. The plate does not touch the crystal support and can be electrically heated. (DG)

(DG)Original Title
