[en] The elastic scattering for a light nuclear system 3He - α is analysed within the Generating Coordinates Method using a procedure formulated by Piza and Passos. The same numerical technique is used to describe the bond states and scattering properties. (A.C.A.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The absorption channel in π-3He collisions is investigated. Amplitudes are derived for the pion-induced breakup of the target into both two clusters and three free nucleons. We employ elementary absorption mechanisms of one- and two-body type, which are presently considered to be important for the description of π-nucleus collisions from the low-energy region up to the region dominated by the Δ resonance. We put the major emphasis on the few-body aspects of the process, such as the three-nucleon dynamics in the final state, and the initial-state breakup of the bound nuclear system in presence of the pion. On the other hand, we neglect pion-nucleus correlations in the initial state, which would entail a complete four-body treatment of the process. For both one- and two-body elementary absorption, the full amplitudes are explicitly represented through quasiparticle (Sturmian) expansions. The entire set of graphs corresponding to the present model is given and discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper describes a proposed experiment to detect high energy photons from radiative muon capture on helium-3 using a large acceptance pair spectrometer. The target will consist of 2 liters of liquid helium-3. The negative muons from TRIUMF channel M9 will be stopped in the target. The few muons that undergo radiative capture will produce a photon spectrum which is the sum of the individual spectra from the reactions

AbstractAbstract
[en] A major fraction of the physics program for Hall C involves scattering from cryogenic targets of the lightest nuclei, i.e. H, D, and 3,4He. Argonne is constructing the He target that will consist of a 4cm cylinder, operating at a pressure of 10 atmospheres and a temperature of ∼5.2 degrees Kelvin. CEBAF is currently constructing a cryo-target system for liquid H and D cells and the cooled, pressurized helium targets. The He target system includes cell loop, the He supply systems, and the additional equipment needed to ensure minimum loss of 3He in the event of target rupture. Some of the major components have been completed, while the balance of the system will be ready for installation this fiscal year
