AbstractAbstract
[en] The improvement of searching techniques has two aims: a maximum defect detectability and a high ability to classify into relevant and irrelevant or spurious indications. Major contributions for the improvement of the inspection techniques come from various fields. Three of them are shown in this paper: theoretical echodynamic models, data acquisition and processing and alternative techniques. As the examples and results demonstrate, all three possibilities are of great importance for an optimization of inservice inspections. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The concept of in-service inspection (ISI) has developed enormously in Spain over the last years, and now includes a series of activities beyond what is strictly understood as a mere requirement of standards. The enhanced ISI program is one which basically takes into account: simultaneous compliance with several requirements; scope widened to include those components which experience has shown are susceptible to failure; contemplation of aspects related to studies of life extension (PLEX); application of the most suitable inspection and evaluation techniques. 3 figs

AbstractAbstract
[en] The phased array ultrasonic testing method is available for beam steering and focusing, and then the focused beam divergence angle can be narrowed and the sound level can be intensified at the focused region. In the present study, two examples of phased array application which are the linear scanning mode operation and the sector scanning mode operation, were conducted in order to establish the availability of this technique as an actual NDT technique. As the result of the experiments, it was recognized that both types of scanning mode had the capability for defect detection and successful estimation of the defect size. Furthermore, it was well realized that the real time B-scope display without mechanical scanning was effective to reduce the operating time of inspection. (orig.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This invention concerns a device for positioning a part opposite any tube debouching on a tube plate fitted with evenly distributed tubes. This device is used for positioning a part to be placed in turn in front of all the tubes of the tube bundle of the steam generator of a nuclear power station. This part can be either a guide tube for an inspection appliance or a machining or welding head

AbstractAbstract
[en] For reasons of operational safety there may be need to check turbine disks for stress corrosion cracking. An ultrasonic inspection method is described allowing to examine disks with a complicated geometry. After successful testing and qualification of various detection and analytic techniques, the qualified technique was tested in practice for examination of a disk turbine rotor in a power plant component by means of a mechanised device. A cracked disk was detected, removed, and subsequently examined by destructive methods. The crack depths measured by the ultrasonic inspection (90 , TOFD technique) were found to be in excellent agreement with the results of the metallographic examination data. (orig.)
