[en] Which contribution can the increase of energy efficiency achieve in the industry energy for the energy transition in Germany? To answer this question a model-based analysis of existing energy efficiency potentials of the energy-intensive industries is performed, which account for about 70% of the total energy demand of the industry. Based on this industry for each sector are instruments proposed for the implementation of the calculated potential and to overcome the existing barriers.

This article summarises in a table, sector by sector and for each renewable and recovery energy source, the capability of this energy source to supply part or the overall energy needs of some elementary industrial processes. [en] Advantages of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) are explained. Some important NDT methods, namely, radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle and dye penetrant techniques are described. [en] The title plan (MPI, abbreviated in Dutch) of the Dutch natural gas trading and transporting industry concerns the support and stimulation of energy efficiency of industrial processes to save natural gas. MPI started in 1991 with 80 projects, which number has grown to 306 in the beginning of 1997. October 1, 1996, 230 projects were completed. Much of the current MPI-projects are follow-up projects. [en] This study analyzed the relationship between the CO2 emissions of different industries and economic growth in OECD countries from 1970 to 2005. We tested an environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis and found that total CO2 emissions from nine industries show an N-shaped trend instead of an inverted U or monotonic increasing trend with increasing income. The EKC hypothesis for sector-level CO2 emissions was supported in the (1) paper, pulp, and printing industry; (2) wood and wood products industry; and (3) construction industry. We also found that emissions from coal and oil increase with economic growth in the steel and construction industries. In addition, the non-metallic minerals, machinery, and transport equipment industries tend to have increased emissions from oil and electricity with economic growth. Finally, the EKC turning point and the relationship between GDP per capita and sectoral CO2 emissions differ among industries according to the fuel type used. [en] The nucleonic gauge technology in China is in full development. The nucleonic gauges are widely used, mainly in metallurgy, coal, cement and rubber industries. The simple first generation of nucleonic gauge is locally designed and manufactured in industrial scale by many institutions and enterprises. The local market is large and far from being saturated. The quality and reliability of nucleonic gauges and their integration into the control system are still concern. Research and development is going on to improve the quality and to design and produce second generation of multibeam and multienergy nucleonic gauges. (author)
