AbstractAbstract
[en] A multichannel leak detection system has been developed to detect any chemical leak during the electrochemical etching process. It gives an audible and a visible warning when there is a leak at any part of the system. This greatly helps in isolating the defective sample quickly. It can be removed during operation, while the etching process continues on other samples. The circuit is built from standard integrated circuits and has its own power supply. Provisions have been made to connect this system to the computer for recording date, time and location of the leaky unetched samples. (author)

[en] The volume of a cavity, such as a cylinder and a piston, connected to the enclosure (glovebox or reactor containment shell) is varied to find back the previous pressure difference with the outside (positive or negative). Thermometers and a barometer are provided for eventual corrections

[en] The development of leak detection monitoring by the Annulus Gas System (AGS) for the Ontario Hydro Nuclear Stations over the last several years is reviewed. Verified models were used to modify the AGS and provide the operators with safe operating limits. The current AGS design gives the operator an adequate warning to take timely action and if needed to shutdown the reactor safely in a controlled fashion

AbstractAbstract
[en] The main patent application concerns a composite material that may be used for detecting liquid metal leakages. This material includes a fabric of refractory mineral and electrically insulating threads in which electric conducting wires are inserted at regular intervals and electrically insulated with respected to the outside surfaces of the materials. More precisely, the electric conducting wires are preferably arranged in parallel to the warp of the fabric. According to a particular fabrication method, the substance concerned can be constituted of a stack of layers comprising a central layer of a web of insulating threads in which electric conducting wires are buried at regular intervals. This central layer is placed between at least two external layers made of a refractory and electrically insulating mineral thread fabric

AbstractAbstract
[en] A system is disclosed for detecting small leaks at low pressures in hermetically sealed units that includes a first flow circuit for connecting a test unit to a source of pressurized gas (air) to place the unit at a desired test pressure. The gas (air) is then rerouted through a second flow circuit containing a bubble chamber so that in the event of a leak, a stream of bubbles are produced in a liquid. The presence of bubbles in the liquid is detected by a doppler radar which provides an alarm signal in response thereto. The mass displacement of the bubbles within the liquid is controlled and the time period between bubbles is sensed to provide sufficient data to quantify the leak rate

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Bureu of Mines has modified its parts-per-billion helium-4 analyzer to improve the analytical capabilities of the instrument. The modifications resulted in the following improvements: (1) the analytical precision of the instrument for 10 consecutive analyses was improved to + or - ppb at the 5000 ppb helium-4 level, (2) the helium-4 sensitivity was increased almost tenfold, and (3) the minimum detectable limit for helium-4 was improved to 0.5 ppb. The modifications made to improve the instrument included replacing the ion-source control circuit with a direct-current solid-state design, controlling the temperature of the ion source, stabilizing and reducing the pumping rate of the vacuum system, and optimizing peak integration
