AbstractAbstract
[en] Salient features of the manual and automatic liquid scintillation systems produced by the Electronic Corporation of India Ltd., Hyderabad are described. Their applications for assay of radioactive samples in the areas of industrial research, agricultural research, medical and biological research, hydrology and meteorology, archaelogy and geology, dairy chemistry, chemistry, and physics are mentioned. AbstractAbstract
[en] This invention concerns a process and system for determining the degree of quenching in liquid scintillation counting samples, in order to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional technique. With this in view, the invention includes a method for exposing a sample to the radiation of a standard source. In this way, a distribution is produced of the electrons scattered by Compton effect, presenting a Compton front as forward front. Then a determination is made of a single characteristic of the Compton front, preferably the point of inflexion when the second derivative of the front is nil. Then the value of the pulse height corresponding to it is determined and this makes it possible to compare the pulse height figure and to determine in a similar manner with a calibration standard the difference in the pulse height figures indicating actual degree of quenching
