AbstractAbstract
[en] It is suggested to decontaminate radioactively polluted lubricating oils by adding an acid salt solution of those elements the radionuclides of which are to be removed. The added acid salt solution is to be homogeneously mixed with the lubricating oil and the settling phase is to be drawn off. An aqueous solution of a salt of a precipitation partner of those elements the radionuclides of which are to be removed, is to be added and simultaneously homogeneously mixed and the precipitation products are then to be removed from the lubricating oil by separation. AbstractAbstract
[en] A device for wear measurement of machine parts labelled with radioactive material is improved in such a way that a filter may be installed in the oil flow transporting the wear particles containing the radioisotopes to the place of measurement. It is then possible to study the wear behavior of intricate internal-combustion engines. For this purpose either the total oil flow or only part of it is conducted through the filter. Design details are exhaustively presented. (10 sub-claims). (UWI) 891 HP

(UWI)Original Title

[en] In this paper a detailed description of the working principles of those new oil-free vacuum pumps are given which have been presented and exhibited during the 2 nd and 3 rd European Vacuum Conferences. These are diaphragm pumps, oil-free piston pumps, mechanical pumps with claw type rotor and oil-free molecular drag (spiro-)pumps. Their technical characteristics, typical pumping curves and costs of their operation are given. The fields of their recommended applications are also discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] According to the invention continuous wear measurement is done in an internal combustion engine in which wearing parts of the engine are radioactively marked, measurement is done by means of an additional radiation detector configuration belonging to the oil filter in which the radioactively marked wear parts absorbed by the oil are being detected and continuously recorded by an electronic recording system. The comparison of the simultaneously recorded measurements allows to conclude exactly at any time whether an increase of the oil-flow characteristic counting rate of one of the radiation detectors results from increased wear and consequentially an engine defect or whether it is simply due to filter exhaustion which can be seen from a more slowly ascending diagram line characteristic for the radioactivity within the filter or from very high values of the counting rate typical for the radioactivity within the filter in which case the filter is usually exhausted. AbstractAbstract
[en] Due to increasing requirements for motor vehicles and production conditions, interest is growing in the refined measuring and testing made possible by the radionuclide technique (RNT). The most important tracer techniques, e.g. determination of oil consumption using chemically bound tritium and the measurement of wear using the activation technique are described. The RNT methods show sensitivities of up to 10000 times greater than conventional mechanical methods. 1 fig

AbstractAbstract
[en] Recently, carbon dioxide is being considered as one of the promising environmentally-friendly refrigerants, and extensive studies on the 'trans-critical' vapor-compression cycle using CO2 have been undertaken both experimentally and theoretically. In the vapor compression cycle, lubricant oils are always required, and thus thermophysical properties of lubricant and refrigerant mixtures must be well understood. Currently, the lubricants of choice are polyalkylene glycol (PAG) or polyol ester (POE) oils. Several experimental solubility data for these oils have been published, but those experimental data have not been analyzed yet theoretically (or with thermodynamic equations). In this report, we have investigated the phase behavior (or solubility) of CO2 + PAG and POE mixtures, correlating experimental solubility data with our equation-of-state (EOS) model. Observed data have been successfully correlated with the present EOS, which is used for predicting the general phase behavior for mixtures of CO2 with these lubricant oils
