AbstractAbstract
[en] The chiral expansion of the one-loop corrections to baryon masses is examined in a generic meson-cloud model with meson-baryon form factors. For pion loops, the expansion is rapidly convergent and at fourth order in mπ accurately reproduces the full integral. In contrast, the expansion is found to converge very slowly for kaon loops. Despite the importance of high-order terms, relations like that of Gell-Mann and Okubo are well satisfied by the baryon masses calculated with the full integral. The pion cloud makes a significant contribution to the πN sigma commutator, while the kaon cloud gives a very small strangeness content in the nucleon. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A survey of the estimations of the unknown nuclear masses by means of the generalized mass relations is presented. One discusses the new hypotheses supplementing the original general Garvey-Kelson scheme, reviewing the generalized mass relations and formulae, according to the present status of this new formalism. A critical discussions is given of the reliability of these new Garvey-Kelson type extrapolation procedures. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A survey of the estimations of the unknown nuclear masses by means of the generalized mass relationships is presented. General considerations on the present theoretical and experimental status of nuclear mass surface are given with emphasis on the importance of the semiempirical investigation. Part one of the paper covers the studies undertaken prior to the Garvey-Kelson nucleidic mass relationships, which are the object of the second part. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A survey of the estimations of nuclear masses by means of the generalized mass relations is given in this paper. The Garvey-Kelson generalized mass relations and the general functional dependences which satisfy these relations exactly (Garvey-Kelson generalized mass formulas) are presented from a critical point of view. Special emphasis has been put on the comparison with the experimental data and the reliability of the Garvey-Kelson generalized mass relations and formulas for the nuclear mass predictions. (author)

[en] The empirical meson mass formulas of the Jpc = 0-+, 1--, 0++, 1+-, 1++, and 2++ SU(3) multiplets are given in this paper. The calculation results are in agreement with the experimental data quite well. This work will be helpful to understand the essence of elementary particle masses. 5 refs., 1 tab

AbstractAbstract
[en] Critical remarks are made concerning mass tables in general and the mass table based on mass relationships in particular. Specific criteria for acceptability of a table are formulated. Two methods--which form a logical sequence--of using these relationships to predict masses are described. The first involves the construction of regional mass tables with a very limited number of free parameters to be adjusted. The second involves the prediction of each unknown mass individually and independently and uses no parameters whatsoever
