[en] This report presents safety information about powered industrial trucks. The basic lift truck, the counterbalanced sit down rider truck, is the primary focus of the report. Lift truck engineering is briefly described, then a hazard analysis is performed on the lift truck. Case histories and accident statistics are also given. Rules and regulations about lift trucks, such as the US Occupational Safety an Health Administration laws and the Underwriter's Laboratories standards, are discussed. Safety issues with lift trucks are reviewed, and lift truck safety and reliability are discussed. Some quantitative reliability values are given

[en] The patent concerns an apparatus for posting toxic or radioactive materials into and out of a high integrity enclosure, such as a glovebox, through a port in a wall of the enclosure. The apparatus comprises a container for the materials, with a lid which is engageable with a door for the port, and the container is supported in a cradle. The door cannot be opened in the absence of a container in the cradle, and the container cannot be removed when the door and lid unit is away from the port. (UK)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The device allows to discharge the nuclear fuel pellets arranged in trays, and to introduce them to form stacks of pellets of determined length in storage tubes of associated diameter. It comprises a carriage to make the pellets slip from each tray on a guide vibrating bowl to a shute and then on a conveyor which loads the pellets into an intermediate tube to form a stack of the said length. A lift moves the intermediate tube transversally to its length between a loading position and a transfer position. Means allow to move a storage tube bundle to put each tube in its turn face to the transfer position. The stack of pellets contained in the intermediate tube which is in the transfer position is thus sent back to the storage tube facing it. The invention applies to pellets which have been sintered in the trays in inert atmosphere. These pellets have to be stored before several examinations and grinding, and finally loading into the cans to constitute fuel rods. These sintered pellets have a cylindrical shape and the invention spares them hard handling which would damage them

Le dispositif permet de decharger des pastilles, notamment de combustible nucleaire, disposees dans des plateaux, et de les introduire sous forme d'empilements de longueur determinee dans des tubes de stockage de diametre correspondant. Il comprend un chariot pour faire glisser les pastilles de chaque plateau a son tour sur un bol vibrant de guidage vers une goulotte de depot des pastilles en succession sur un transporteur qui charge les pastilles dans un tube intermediaire sous forme d'un empilement presentant ladite longueur. Un ascenseur deplace le tube intermediaire transversalement a sa longueur entre une position de chargement du tube et une position de transfert. Des moyens permettent de deplacer un faisceau de tubes de stockage de facon a amener chaque tube a son tour face a la position de transfert. L'empilement de pastilles contenu dans le tube intermediaire place en position de transfert est alors refoule vers le tube de stockage place en face. L'invention trouve une application particulierement importante dans le dechargement des pastilles de combustible nucleaire oxyde des plateaux dans lesquels elles ont subi une operation de frittage en atmosphere inerte. Ces pastilles doivent etre stockees avant de subir divers controles, d'etre rectifiees, et enfin d'etre chargees dans des gaines pour constituer des crayons de combustible. [en] An improved end plug for attachment on an end of a cladding tube of a nuclear fuel rod which facilitates using a gripper tool for loading the fuel rod into a nuclear fuel assembly is described comprising: (a) an inner portion adapted to be inserted into the end of the tube; and (b) an outer portion adapted to extend from the end of the tube when the inner portion is inserted therein, the outer portion including a body part disposed adjacent the tube end and a leading part disposed remote from the tube end; (c) the leading part having a hollow interior cavity defined therein, a continuous exterior annular truncated surface defined on a terminal end of the leading part and a continuous exterior annular tapered surface defined on a lateral side of the leading part; (d) the exterior tapered surface extending between and merging with the body part and the exterior truncated surface and providing sufficient angular inclination so as to facilitate insertion of the end plug when mounted on the fuel rod tube end into the fuel assembly; (e) the interior cavity in the leading part having an inner end, an outer opening defined at and surrounded by the exterior annular truncated surface and a continuous interior annular wall surface interconnecting the inner end and the outer opening, the interior wall surface being of the same constant diameter from the inner end to the outer opening; (f) the interior wall surface of the cavity having a continuous undercut annular groove; (g) the leading part having a thickness between the exterior tapered surface thereon and the interior cavity undercut groove therein which is less than the radius of the groove and greater than the width of the exterior truncated surface
