AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper discusses some solutions to problems common to the design, management and maintenance of a large high energy physics spectrometer software system. The experience of dealing with a large, complex program and the necessity of having the program controlled by various people at different levels of computer experience has led us to design a program control structure of mnemonic and self-explanatory nature. The use of this control language in both on-line and off-line operation of the program will be discussed. The solution of structuring a large program for modularity so that substantial changes to the program can be made easily for a wide variety of high energy physics experiments is discussed. Specialized tools for this type of large program management are also discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] The present MPS features include the choice of two beams: the medium energy separated beam (MESB) which produces separated or at least enriched π's, K's or p's from 2 to 10 GeV/c and the high energy unseparated beam (HEUB) which covers 5 to 28.5 GeV/c. Recommended improvements on the existing chamber are discussed along with expected performance improvements

AbstractAbstract
[en] The D0 RunIIb final design stave has been tested to verify its response to long term loading (creep). Two stave mockups have been investigated. Mechanical stave No.3 has been under continuous loading for 8 weeks. The maximum deflection was 3.6 (micro)m, with 80% of the total sag reached after the first two weeks. Mechanical stave No.2, despite the denomination, has been assembled successively with improved gluing assembly process and tested for six weeks. No creep mechanism has been observed in this surveyed mockup

AbstractAbstract
[en] Detectors based on a superconductive tunnelling junction (STJ) were investigated. The mechanism proposed for the transformation of particle energy to quasiparticles involves the conversion of energy to heat when the particle penetrates the STJ. The transient increase in the temperature of the junction film increases the thermally generated quasiparticle density. Theoretical calculations were in good agreement with experimental results obtained with 5.13 MeV α-particles incident on thin film lead and tin STJs deposited on glass substrates. The best signal to noise ratios observed were 20 and 40 respectively for lead and tin junctions. Pulse amplitude distributions were found to consist of an initally decreasing pulse density wth increasing pulse amplitude, then a nearly flat plateau region followed by a rapid dropoff. Thus superconductive particle detectors with this type of geometry and with uncollimated particle sources do not give rise to line spectra. A heat-sink chip type detector is proposed. (LL)

AbstractAbstract
[en] We report in the following, latest results from the KLOE detector at DAΦNE, the Frascati φ-factory. KLOE has collected 2.5 fb-1 of e+e- collisions at center of mass energy around the φ mass. We are completing the analyses of the 2001–2002 data sample of 450 pb-1 and we present selected results based on the complete data sample. KLOE results could be divided into two categories kaonic and hadronic physics. We present last results on both topics describing the impact of the KLOE physics. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The main emphasis in particle identification during the last years has been on the perfection of the techniques and to include, from the conceptual design of the hardware, the need of the ofiiine algorithms and the calibration systems. We will in this overview article concentrate on the main advances from the LEP time to the LHC epoch
