AbstractAbstract
[en] A new method of optical pumping in an ion beam cooler buncher has been developed to selectively enhance ionic metastable state populations. The technique permits the study of elements previously inaccessible to laser spectroscopy and has been applied here to the study of Nb. Model independent mean-square charge radii and nuclear moments have been studied for 90,90m,91,91m,92,93,99,101,103Nb to cover the region of the N=50 shell closure and N≅60 sudden onset of deformation. The increase in mean-square charge radius is observed to be less than that for Y, with a substantial degree of β softness observed before and after N=60.

AbstractAbstract
[en] RF cleaning of thin films of NbN is studied by X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) and compared with Nb cleaning. A comparison between air-oxidized Nb and NbN films shows that the NbN oxidation is less dependent on polluting elements than the Nb one. By thermal oxidation at different pressures and temperatures (<= 10-2 mbar and <= 2000C) there is formation of an interface composed essentially of NbOsub(x)(x<2.5) then of Nb2O5, with diffusion of nitrogen through oxides layer. The saturation layer of oxides and the interface are thinner than those of Nb films

[en] This specification covers unalloyed niobium and niobium alloy ingots prepared by fusion, compressing and sintering of powder, or other suitable means to produce consolidated metal for processing to various basic shapes. The materials covered by this specification are: Type 1 - reactor grade unalloyed niobium, Type 1 - commercial grade unalloyed niobium, and Type 3 - reactor grade niobium alloy containing 1% zirconium. When an alloy not listed in this specification is desired, the purchaser may specify changes in chemical composition and other requirements needed to obtain the desired material

AbstractAbstract
[en] The niobium(0) compound [Nb(mes)2] (mes=1,3,5-trimethylbenzene) was prepared not only by metal atom-ligand cocondensation, but also by reduction of the NbX5/AlX3 system with aluminum in the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons. The chemical behavior of this compound is similar to that of the analogous complex [V(mes)2]. For example, it reacts under carbon monoxide atmosphere to give the green salt [Nb(mes)2(CO)][Nb(CO)6]. (orig./EF)Primary Subject
