AbstractAbstract
[en] The present report contains new data on the altitudes of nuclear device explosions (ND) for the major part of nuclear tests (NT) performed in 1949-1962. This parameter together with the explosion yield is the most important safety condition of NT conduct and determines the explosion radiation impact. For the information to be complete the other parameters of the all 221 nuclear tests made by USSR in 1949-1962 are also given (date, place, conditions, purpose and yield)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A new method of feature selection based on ordinal optimization is presented, and an experiment based on BP rule is carried out to select the optimum feature set of underground nuclear explosion and natural earthquake. Experimental results indicate that this method can reduce the search space and enhance the search efficiency effectively. This may be a novel theoretical method in feature selection. (authors)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The mechanical effects of nuclear underground explosions are presented: crater and cavity formation, seismic waves, transmission to atmosphere of a part of the energy. The production of radioactive products is considered together with the resulting contamination. The American projects of nuclear explosive industrial use (Plowshare, Gasbuggy, Sloop etc... Projects) and their future development are discussed

AbstractAbstract
[en] Unlike conventional terrorist violence, bona-fide nuclear terrorism is a self-publicizing phenomenon. It is a public event by the very scope of its impact. Apocalyptic and catastrophically destructive, a nuclear explosion is the ideal instrument of mass terror. Rational nuclear insurgents would not inform authorities that a nuclear device is about to be detonated. Advance warning of an impending nuclear explosion would reduce the maximum potential effectiveness of any response to such an event

[en] The history of the international efforts to secure a Comprehensive Test Ban is described. A critique is given of the major objections which have been raised against a Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. Australian efforts in support of a Comprehensive Test Ban are described. These include political and technical initiatives such as the Group of Scientific Experts, The National Seismological Monitoring Centre and the National Monitoring Service
