AbstractAbstract
[en] The immediate uptake of technetium 99m in 43 meningiomas and meningoblastomas, observed with a scintillation camera, was analysed. The study concerns the first 30 seconds of the scintigraphic examination, a period corresponding to the arrival of the tracer in the carotids and its progress in the brain circulation (arterial time, capillary time and venous time). The principle of the examination and the facilities of use of the tracer employed are described, after which the examination procedure and the normal images obtained are reported. The technique applied to these 43 patients revealed an instant uptake site in 37 cases, i.e. about 65%. Of the 6 remaining cases 2 were meningiomas of the posterior cranial fossa, 1 was due to technical mistakes, another corresponded to a cystic meningioma of the convexity and the last two to meningiomas of the small splenoid wing. These results confirm those of other authors. Other immediate uptake centres are provided by angiomas, arteriovenous anevrisms and certain glioblastomas. This sign although very important for the meningioma diagnosis, must be corroborated by results of other examinations. It would be useful to make a kinematic study of instant uptake in order to establish, if possible, the exact time of appearance (arterial, capillary or veinous) of this site in meningiomas and in other tumours where the some clinical sign is observed

AbstractAbstract
[en] This study is intended for developing a rapid, sensitive, selective, and accurate analytical procedure for determining traces of Zirconium (Zr) in the presence of Molybdenum (Mo) and Aluminum (Al) inevitably eluted as chemical and/or radiochemical impurities along with the isotonic solution of Technitium - 99m using saline (0.9% NaCl solution) in a solvent extraction 99mTc-generation process utilizing Zirconium polymolybdates [99Mo] as a reactor irradiation target to be subject to extraction on a bed of Aluminum Oxide (or Alumina Al2O3) as a protective layer absorbing [99Mo] and mitagating its undesired breakthrough As the whole study has been planned; so as each of these elements can individually be investigated, this first portion is solely devoted to the spectrophotometric determination of (Zr) as a Xylenol - Orange complex; with the objective primarily being the analytical evaluation of this procedure and determining its integrity as an analytical method capable of achieving the purpose of properly assaying the eluates. The study of the xylenol- orange complex of zirconium has shown that the absorption is maximum at the (534nm) wavelength when, and only when the acidity of the work-media is 0.2N H2SO4. It was also found; using two different methods (Mole-ratios and Continuous variations), that the composition ratio of the complex is [1:1], and the stability constant of the complex is (1.59 x 106). Furthermore, several other investigations were also carried out to determine the response of the procedure parameters to the influence of various factors such as acidity of the working media, amount of complexing reagent, order-of-addition of reagents, time dependence, and interferences.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The conditions of pertechnetate ion precipitation with ferroin nitrate in nitric acid solutions were determined. The effect of precipitation condition on the composition and structure of ferroin pertechnetate complexes was analyzed. At aging of the precipitate in the mother liquor the formation of nitrosyl group in the complex was found, which is confirmed by appearance in the IR spectrum of the band at 1700 cm"-"1 belonging to the coordinated nitrosyl group. Analysis of the IR spectra of ferroin perrhenate and pertechnetate complexes showed that coordinated nitrosyl group is formed only in the presence of technetium in the complex structure. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] 2,2'-[(8-hydroxyquinolin-7-yl)methylazanediyl]diacetic acid (HQMADA) was synthesized via reaction of 8-hydroxyquinoline with iminodiacetic acid in presence of paraformaldehyde with a yield of 27%. The obtained compound was well characterized via different analytical techniques. Labeling of the synthesized compound with technetium-99m in pertechnetate form (99mTcO4-) in the presence of stannous chloride dihydrate was carried out via chelation reaction. The reaction parameters that affect the labeling yield such as HQMADA concentration, stannous chloride dihydrate concentration, pH of the reaction mixture, and reaction time were studied to optimize the labeling conditions. Maximum radiochemical yield of 99mTc-HQMADA complex (91.9%) was obtained by using 1.5 mg HQMADA, 50 μg SnCl2 x 2H2O, pH 8 and 30 min reaction time. Biodistribution studies in mice were carried out in experimentally induced infection in the left thigh using E. coli. 99mTc-HQMADA complex showed higher uptake (T/NT = 5.5 ± 0.3) in the infectious lesion than the commercially available 99mTc-ciprofloxacin (T/NT = 3.8 ± 0.8). Biodistribution studies for 99mTc-HQMADA complex in Albino mice bearing septic and aseptic inflammation models showed that 99mTc-HQMADA complex able to differentiate between septic and aseptic inflammation. AbstractAbstract
[en] The most frequent brain diseases are caused by changes on the blood vessels. According to various authors, of all intracerebral processes, the incidence of cerebrovascular malformations is 1-2%. Although malformations may appear in any age group, they are usually detected between the age of 20 and 40, headaches being usually the only sign of disease. At our Institute, in the period from 1990 to 1994, 435 patients underwent cerebral scintiscanning with Tc-99m-pertechnetate, due to persisting headaches that could not be relieved by standard treatment. Cerebrovascular malformations were detected in 2.8%% of all patients. Radionuclide angioscintigraphy with Tc-99m-pertechnetate is gradually being disused with the introduction of computerized tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Our results show the advantages of the radionuclide angioscintigraphy as a valuable, quick, noninvasive and nonexpensive diagnostic method for the detection of cerebrovascular malformations. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The invention relates to a process for preparing a tin colloid labelled with technetium 99m, whereby technetium 99m as an aqueous solution of the pertechnetate ion TcO4- is added to a reagent comprising one part by weight of sodium, potassium or ammonium fluoride and from 0.00075 to 0.75 part by weight of stannous tin. This reagent can be in an aqueous solution but it is preferably used in the solid freeze-dried state. The pertechnetate solution can be a solution in water or in a normal saline solution and it can be easily obtained by elution of technetium 99m generator. If the eluate is sterile, it is desirable that the reagent to which this solution is added should likewise be sterile
