AbstractAbstract
[en] The increased interest in more exclusive fission observables has demanded more detailed models. We describe a new computational model, FREYA, that aims to meet this need by producing large samples of complete fission events from which any observable of interest can then be extracted consistently, including any interesting correlations. The various model assumptions are described and the potential utility of the model is illustrated. As a concrete example, we use formal statistical methods, experimental data on neutron production in neutron-induced fission of 239Pu, along with FREYA, to develop quantitative insights into the relation between reaction observables and detailed microscopic aspects of fission. Current measurements of the mean number of prompt neutrons emitted in fission taken together with less accurate current measurements for the prompt post-fission neutron energy spectrum, up to the threshold for multi-chance fission, place remarkably fine constraints on microscopic theories.

AbstractAbstract
[en] This invention concerns a radioactive logging technique, particularly a technique for finding uranium by prompt fission neutrons. Its characteristics are: the irradiation of a formation, of which the uranium content is known, with a continuous source of fast neutrons; the determination of the ratio of the epithermal neutrons to the thermal neutrons in this formation; the irradiation of a formation, of which the uranium level is not known, with a continuous source of fast neutrons; the determination of the ratio of epithermal neutrons to the thermal neutrons of this unknown uranium concentration; the irradiation of the formation of an unknown uranium concentration with repetitive pulses of fast neutrons; the determination of the ratio of epithermal neutrons to thermal neutrons for this unknown concentration of uranium during the period in which the prompt neutrons are produced by fission and the comparison of the ratios determined in order to obtain an indication of the grade of the ore with this unknown concentration of uranium

AbstractAbstract
[en] Investigations of neutron-matter interactions at the AAEC Research Establishment are described. Contributions to neutron data have been made for both fission and capture reactions. The average number of prompt neutrons in a fission event has been measured for several fissionable elements and for a broad range of speeds of the incident neutron

AbstractAbstract
[en] Proton and neutron even-odd effects in prompt emission for an even-odd fissioning nucleus 234U(n,f), at incident energies from 0.2 MeV up to 5 MeV are investigated. Using the available experimental Y(A,TKE) data and the Zp model prescriptions, the proton (Z) even-odd effects in fission fragment distributions were also studied. The global Z even-odd effect in Y(Z) distributions decreases almost linearly with increasing incident neutron energy (En). The neutron even-odd effect in average neutron separation energy < Sn> was also studied and it decreases with increasing En. The even-odd effect in prompt emission is most visible in prompt neutron multiplicity, especially in .(Z). The increasing multiplicity with En mainly for the heavy fragment group, observed for .(A), is also observed for .(Z). The global Z even-odd effect in prompt neutron multiplicity is slightly decreasing from about 9% at En=0.2 MeV to 8% at En=5 MeV, being at the same level of magnitude as for the even-even neighbours ''2''3''3,''2''3''5U(nth,f).
