AbstractAbstract
[en] Our project consists on the automatization of a Radon calibration room. The first step was the development of several electronic cards collecting outside data coming to our device (pressure and temperature). Using ISIS software, we have designed these electronic cards: pressure, temperature, power supply, PIC interface and control card. In the second part, we have programmed the PIC 16F877 using the PCW compiler to display data on an LCD screen and sent them through the RS232 serial to the hyper-terminal and to control the motor and the fan. The last part aims to develop an interface using LabVIEW to command our device.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The symposium with international participation was focused on two subject areas, viz.: (1) measuring methods and instruments for testing chemical quality of the basic components of the environment; (2) technologies and installations with minimal environmental impact. The proceedings contain the texts of 15 submitted papers of which 2 were processed for INIS. (A.K.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A worldwide radionuclide network of 80 stations, including 40 with noble-gas-detection capability forming part of the International Monitoring System, has been designed to monitor compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. Pending entry into force of the Treaty, the certified stations are operating provisionally and so far an experience of over 100 station-years has been acquired for particulate stations. Noble gas systems are still under testing, though the operational experience is fast growing. A maintenance strategy is being developed on the basis of the experience acquired so far and the analysis of equipment failure. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Full text: The paper presents Triple-to-Double Coincidence Ratio (TDCR) method as an important tool in radionuclide metrology for standardizing pure β- and pure EC-radionuclides. Many metrological laboratories in the world are using this method. The TDCR method was adapted to the international reference system (SIR) in the Bureau des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) in Sevres and establish a part of the National Standard of Radionuclides Activity Unit in Poland. The principles of the TDCR method and the measurement device based on the Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC) are described. An example of standardization results and a list of radionuclides measured by the TDCR method are given. Application of the method for standardizing radiopharmaceuticals and preparation of standards for detectors calibration for environmental and nuclear medicine purposes is pointed out. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The Chernobyl accident demonstrated that environmental surveillance systems installed up to 1986 were not sufficiently prepared to perform a sudden nationwide investigation into air- and surface-contamination. In 1986, the only emission monitoring system in the Federal Republic of Germany was operated by the central meteorological service (DWD) which installed the first equipment in the sixties after the nuclear bomb tests and completed the system by the end of the seventies. Derived from equipment recently developed for nuclear power plant stack control systems, the industry started development of emission monitors. The key instrument is a stepping aerosol monitor, which was designed for permanent operation with minimum maintenance. Within an accuracy of +-25 %, a compensation factor for the effect of natural aerosols can be achieved that enables the instrument to measure, for example, 0.3 Bq/m3 artificial aerosol concentration, even in the presence of 3 Bq/m3 natural activity concentration
