[en] Increased patellar uptake on bone scans is seen quite commonly but the possible or probable etiologies of this finding have not been previously well described. A review of 100 consecutive bone scans showed that the incidence of bilateral ''hot'' patellae is 15%. Identified etiologies include osteoarthritic degenerative disease (35%), fracture, possible metastatic disease, bursitis, Paget's disease, and osteomyelitis. The value of careful history, physical examination, and radiographs is stressed
[en] The anti-inflammatory effect of naproxen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, in osteoarthritis was evaluated through subjective clinical and objective computerized scintigraphic scanning parameters. All patients received 1.0g daily of naproxen administered once a day in the morning during six weeks. Twenty patients were evaluated clinically and the results were favourable in 19 (95%) with complete symptoms disappearance in 9 (45%). Sixteen patients were evaluated through the computerized scintilography, and a significant reduction in the articular flow was observed in 11 patients (68.75%). Side effects were few, mild to moderate, the majority related to G.I. tract, and in none patient was necessary treatment interruption. It is concluded that naproxen is a useful agent in the treatment of osteoarthritis and the correspondent inflamation associated with the basic mechanisms of the disease. (author)
Authors performed TMJ arthrograms in the patients with TMJ problem such as pain, click sound, limited motion and locking, etc. The following results noted: 1. The arthrographic findings of 22 TMJ were analyzed. a) Normal: 6 cases b) Anterior disc displacement with rediction: 6 cases · Early reduction: 2 cases · Intermediate reduction: 3 cases · Late reduction: 1 case c) Anterior disc displacement without reduction: 6 cases · Two cases had adhesion between the posterior portion of disc and the posterior surfaces of the articular eminence. 2. Among 22 cases, the clinical findings of 16 cases (73%) were compatible with arthrographic findings. 6 cases showed disparity between them.
[en] The importance of the radiologic examination in rheumatic diseases is discussed. The value of correct execution (incidence and appropriate method) and posterior interpretation in the radiographic proceeding is broached aiming at a clinic-radiologic association. The necessity of an analitic radiographic examination is emphasized and basic principles of its interpretation are described. The expressives aspects of main rheumatic diseases are presented (M.A.C.)
