[en] This extensive reference book is the first in international literature that provides a complete source of information on all aspects of safety engineering. Fifty well-known experts from industry, universities and colleges, and other relevant institutions contributed to this compendium, of which the various chapters have been carefully coordinated in contents. It has been a major goal to encompass all aspects of theory and practice alike, and always to present information with regard for practice, in order to make this publication an efficient means of quick and reliable information for every one concerned with safety engineering. Access to information relating to the various subject fields involved is relatively easy, and the comprehensive literature index added to each chapter informs the interested reader about further literature for more detailed study, or on specific subjects. Mit diesem Handbuch erscheint erstmals in der internationalen Fachliteratur ein Werk, das die gesamte Sicherheitstechnik geschlossen darstellt. Die einzelnen Kapitel wurden von etwa 50 profilierten Fachleuten aus Industrie, Hochschule und anderen Institutionen geschrieben und sind sorgfaeltig untereinander abgestimmt. Es wurde darauf Wert gelegt, dass Theorie und Praxis gleichberechtigt beruecksichtigt wurden, jedoch stets auf die Belange der betrieblichen Praxis ausgerichtet sind. [en] The patent describes a load-engaging mechanism for nuclear fuel elements, comprising an electric motor actuating a first winding drum through the agency of a first reduction gear for allowing the service cable to move in vertical guide a carriage equipped with a pulley and with a basket adapted to contain a nuclear fuel element, a safety device comprising a second winding drum driven by a second reduction gear and carrying at least one stand-by emergency cable attached to the carriage, moving at the speed of the carriage but not carrying the carriage in normal operation, characterised in that the input shaft of the second reduction gear comprises a toothed wheel connected by a serrated belt to another wheel situated on the input shaft of the first reduction gear, in that the carriage is equipped with a second basket and with an elastic connection system connecting the carriage to the emergency cable, and in that the carriage is equipped with a damping system elastically connecting the emergency cable to at least one of the constituent plates of the carriage

[en] Faulted bipolar transistors in a voltage source transistor inverter are protected against shootthrough fault current, from the filter capacitor of the d-c voltage source which drives the inverter over the d-c bus, by interposing a small choke in series with the filter capacitor to limit the rate of rise of that fault current while at the same time causing the d-c bus voltage to instantly drop to essentially zero volts at the beginning of a shootthrough fault. In this way, the load lines of the faulted transistors are effectively shaped so that they do not enter the second breakdown area, thereby preventing second breakdown destruction of the transistors

[en] Highlights: • A new optimal maintenance strategy for a weighted system is proposed. • The proposed policy involves corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance on each component. • The criteria that will be optimized are the cost and the availability functions. • The derivations of the results rely on the concept of signature. Weighted k-out-of-n systems form an important class of redundant systems with a wide range of applications in reliability engineering. In this paper, we introduce novel optimal preventive maintenance models for the class of weighted k-out-of-n systems based on average cost and availability criteria. Depending on the average number of failed components, we set up a cost (availability) function corresponding to the time that the total weights of the working components become less than a predetermined threshold m, or the age of the system reaches TPM. The form of the cost (and availability) function relies on the mixture representation of the system reliability based on the notion of the signature of the system. Some examples of weighted k-out-of-n systems are presented to demonstrate the proposed models numerically and graphically.

[en] Failure mode and effects analysis is a method to investigate the possible types of component failures and their effects on the system. The analysis is an inductive procedure. The analysis postulates failure of single components. The types of component failure are unlimited. It is a simple procedure without great mathematical efforts. Standard forms are used for systematic working, clearness, and documentation. Recommendations are given concerning the methods of failure mode and effects analysis and the design of the standard form. (orig./HP)

Die Ausfalleffektanalyse ist ein Verfahren zur Untersuchung der Ausfallarten von Komponenten eines Systems und deren Auswirkungen (Effekte) auf das System. Die Vorgehensweise der Analyse ist damit induktiv. In der Ausfalleffektanalyse werden Ausfaelle einzelner Komponenten unterstellt. Die in der Analyse erfassten Ausfallarten der Komponenten des Systems unterliegen keiner Einschraenkung. Es handelt sich um ein einfaches Verfahren ohne mathematischen Aufwand. Zur Systematisierung, zur besseren Uebersichtlichkeit und Dokumentierung wird die Analyse mit Formblaettern durchgefuehrt.
