AbstractAbstract
[en] Tumor scintigraphic localization of neoplasms can be done in two ways: indirectly and directly. The first method shows alternations of the normal structure of the organ, such as 'cold lesions' in liver and thyroid. Abnormalities in function as increased permeability of the blood barrier results from abnormal deposition of the radionuclide in the brain scintigram of a patient with neoplasm. Increased focal areas of uptake of bone-seeking radionuclides are very characteristic of metastases. The direct methods depend on preferential uptake of the radionuclide by the neoplastic tissue resulting from altered metabolism (e.g. Se-75). Other agents such as Gallium-67 have affinity for neoplasms. Another approach is to use antineoplastic agents and radioactive antibodies which will localize in the tumor. At this stage the most useful neoplasm seeking agents are Gallium-67 citrate and 111In-Bleomycin, even though infections can give false positives. The possibility should be considered of enhancing the uptake of radionuclides by neoplastic cells using increased O2 concentration. (orig.)

(orig.)Primary Subject

AbstractAbstract
[en] The system presented is the Searle Nuclear-Chicago Data Processor for Nuclear Medicine, the Clincom. The system has been designed to fulfil the data processing needs in the daily routine in a nuclear medicine department, where computer-skilled personnel is normally not available. Therefore one of the outstanding requirements in the design has been the ease of operation. A clinical program has been developed that enables a large number of routines to be performed by pressing just a pushbutton on the front panel. A further design criterium has been that the Clincom could be placed at a reasonable distance of the camera for example in another room, in order to optimise both patient's and operator's convenience

AbstractAbstract
[en] Constrained optimisation has been applied to both one and two dimensional scintigraphic data. The only assumption made is that the object data should contain no discontinuities. The only a priori information required to implement deconvolution is a measure of the data to be deconvolved and an estimate of the system point spread function. Constrained optimisation should be preferred to the Wiener type filter which requires more information about the signal and noise components of the data and may also require other approximations to be made which are probably difficult to justify for scintigraphic data

AbstractAbstract
[en] A case of retained gastric antrum diagnosed through pertecnetate (99mTc-O-4) abdominal scintigraphy is described. This radionuclides's specific accumulations by the gastric mucosa is indicated for the diagnosis of ectopic gastric mucosa or retained gastric antrum after gastrectomy (BII). This diagnostic procedure is well tolerated, giving immediate answers for therapeutic approach, reducing morbidity and mortality in a high risk group of patients. (author)
