AbstractAbstract
[en] The occurence of earthquakes in Brazil, mainly in the South-eastern region, and its relationship with the geologic features has been discussed by many Authors since the beginning of this Century. It is difficult to define intraplate seismicity and to understand the actual epirogenic displacent, but the definition of the regional stability is important for enginnering purposes and have been considered through seismologic, morphotectonic and geologic criteria. AbstractAbstract
[en] Helio- and asteroseismology is the study of the interior of the Sun and other stars by observation of oscillations on their surfaces. The last decade has witnessed a very rapid evolution in the study of the solar interior, to the point where it is now possible to contemplate investigation of the physical state of matter or the details of rotation and other large-scale processes in the Sun. Stellar studies are in some respects at the same stage as were the solar studies a decade ago. However, with the extensive data sets nowadays available for the Sun, solar and stellar observations can be combined to provide tests for stellar models. These proceedings document the wide range of topics covered during the Symposium, from stellar surface properties to internal solar rotation and from current observations to planned large-scale facilities for the study of the exciting field of helio- and asteroseismology. refs.; figs.; tabs

AbstractAbstract
[en] A network of four stations covering southeastern Sweden has been operated for the period Oct 1, 1986 - Mar 31, 1987. Three events were aftershocks to the strong Skoevde event, 860714, ML=4.5. This made it necessary to include the Skoevde main event together with a couple of earlier aftershocks in the analysis presented in this report. Thus the present study gives 10 new earthquake mechanisms. Three of these events are in the range ML=3.5-4.5. Of the earlier about 170 earthquake mechanisms available for southern Sweden the largest is ML=3.2. The earthquakes of the present study thus give significant new information about Swedish seismic activity. (orig./DG)

[en] A report of the European Seismological Commission (ESC) on 1990-1992 activities and Proceedings of the General Assembly of the ESC are presented in two volumes. Volume II covers the following topics: study of seismic sound, seismotectonic analysis, deep seismic sounding, the three-dimensional structure of the European lithosphere-asthenosphere system, complexity in earthquake occurrence, earthquake hazard, strong and weak earthquake ground motions, macroseismology, microzonation, and applications in earthquake engineering. One paper dealing with the connection between seismicity and the CO2-222Rn content in spring water has been inputted to INIS. (Z.S.)

AbstractAbstract
[en] The earthquake activity in Switzerland was investigated recently in great detail with special emphasis on the area bordering Germany between Basel and the Lake of Constance. The results are compiled in a chronological earthquake catalogue for the years 1021 to 1982. For the time period 1910 - 1964 the existing catalogue was updated with mainly smaller events having seismic intensities less than IV. For the time since 1919, during which the availability of instrumental records in Switzerland increased, a majority of the earthquake parameters (such as location, focal depth and Richter-magnitude) could be determined more accurately with the aid of a new computer program. An important aspect of the work lies in the uniform treatment of all data with respect to new velocity-models for the earth's crust. Furthermore, the theoretical sensitivities of the differing seismic station networks which have been put into operation in Switzerland since 1919 were evaluated and mapped in terms of magnitude-thresholds.
