AbstractAbstract
[en] This report contains a listing of electromagnetically separated stable isotopes which are available at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for distribution for nondestructive research use on a loan basis. This inventory includes all samples of stable isotopes in the Research Materials Collection and does not designate whether a sample is out on loan or is in reprocessing. For some of the high abundance naturally occurring isotopes, larger amounts can be made available; for example, Ca-40 and Fe-56

AbstractAbstract
[en] Starting from terms and definitions, some selected applications of stable isotopes, especially in the field of tracer techniquies, in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, medicine, and agriculture are dealt with. Analytical methods for stable isotopes are only outlined. An extensive bibliography with about 700 references has been included

AbstractAbstract
[en] A listing is given of Mound Facility's sales of stable isotopes of noble gases, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, and sulfur for Fiscal Year 1979. Purchasers are listed alphabetically and are divided into domestic and foreign groups. A cross-reference index by location is included for domestic customers. Cross-reference listings by isotope purchased are included for all customers

AbstractAbstract
[en] Vietnam is the second-largest rice exporter worldwide and the amount of applied fertilizer is increasing rapidly in recent years. Overuse of chemical fertilizers in the paddy fields strongly contributes to the pollution of water bodies. This study aimed to understand the temporal variation of nitrogen concentrations and stable isotope values as environmental tracers based on the observed data in a selected paddy field in Vietnam, which provides basic and useful clues for tracing sources and identifying processes of nitrogen. The results from the field survey showed that , in accordance with the changes in concentrations, δ15N values of ammonium and nitrate in ponded water drastically varied from -3.6‰ to 17.2‰ and from -18.2‰ to 8.5‰, respectively. The present study implied that not only chemical fertilizers but also irrigation water was the major source of nitrogen into the paddy. In addition, microbiological nitrification and denitrification were presumed based on the temporal isotopic variations. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] This compilation is published as an aid to those concerned with the separation and sale of stable isotopes. The information is divided into four sections: alphabetical list of domestic and foreign customers, showing the stable isotopes purchased during the fiscal year; alphabetical list of isotopes, cross-referenced to customer numbers and divided into domestic and foreign categories; alphabetical list of states and countries, cross-referenced to customer numbers and divided into domestic and foreign categories; alphabetical list of states and countries, cross-referenced to customer numbers and indicating geographical concentrations of isotope users; and tabulation of the shipments, quantities, and dollars for domestic, foreign, and project categories for each isotope

AbstractAbstract
[en] An IAEA database and the use of stable isotope methods are making it possible for scientists to determine the migration path of several types of insects, including butterflies. In a paper recently published in the journal Diversity, a group of scientists presented the results of a study on the migration of six species of butterflies, from Canada and the United States of America to Mexico. It is the first study of its kind to establish the origins and migration paths of several butterfly species in Mexico. Based on this scientific data, authorities can develop strategies to protect these insects on their journey.
