AbstractAbstract
[en] The recent trend is to consider accumulated creep strain as the limit of useful life when designing certain industrial equipment. This life is often too long to allow the characteristic indices necessary for sizing to be determined at operating temperature and stresses. The paper discusses the generalisation of the classic Larson-Miller method, using measurement of the behaviour at rupture to predict the accumulated creep strain. (Author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] Fourier transform has been one of the most commonly used tools in study of frequency characteristics of signal. However, based on the Fourier transform, it is hard to tell whether a signal's frequency contents evolve in time or not. Recently, to overcome Fourier transform fault, not to represent non-stationary signal, time-frequency analysis methods are developed and those can represent information of signal's time and frequency at the same time. In this study we analysed ultrasonic signal for degraded SUS 316 with time-frequency analysis method. In particular the methods such as short time Fourier(STFT) and Wigner-Ville distribution(WVD) were used to extract frequency contents and characteristics from ultrasonic signals

AbstractAbstract
[en] Various kinds of defects are produced by the irradiation of energetic particles onto a structural material. The defect fluxes such as mobile vacancies and self-interstitial atoms cause the diffusion of the solute atoms in the matrix. The preferential interaction of the solute with defects induces the enrichment or depletion of the solutes at the defect sinks such as the grain boundaries, and surfaces. These phenomena are generally known as radiation-induced segregation (RIS). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) are generally used as basic analysis techniques to obtain a concentration profile of RIS arising from irradiation. However, the resolution of EDS is limited due to beam broadening, and the overlapping of the probed volume with the matrix prohibits a quantitative analysis of the concentration changes. In the current work, we introduced atom probe tomography (APT) to analyze RIS in SS 316. Various types of radiation-induced defects were identified and the compositional characteristics were quantitatively provided from a wide view point. The measured concentrations were compared with values in the literature. This work can provide a fundamental understanding of the RIS behavior in ion-irradiated SS 316. In this study, an APT analysis of RIS in ion-irradiated SS316 was performed. Various types of irradiation defects were observed. Si atoms are located at the core structures of dislocation loops and clusters

AbstractAbstract
[en] A quantitative correlation of the swelling rate versus swelling is presented. Swelling data of 20% cold-worked 316 stainless steels were analyzed using the power law swelling equation. The prolonged transient region with keeping the suppressed swelling rate was clearly demonstrated for the improved 316 stainless steels like PNC316 and 316Ti. Rate theory analysed lead to the role of precipitates as point defect sinks for retardation of the void growth

AbstractAbstract
[en] A preliminary report is presented dealing with the examination of creep specimens from five casts of AISI Type 316 stainless steel which ruptured with variable ductility. Specimen microstructures and attempts to identify factors responsible for high or low creep ductility are discussed. (author)

AbstractAbstract
[en] A portable RF HTS SQUID-based susceptometer was applied to the measurement of fatigue behavior for type 316L(N) stainless steel containing 0.04% to 0.15% nitrogen content. Strain-controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests were conducted at RT and 600 .deg. C in air an atmosphere, and the magnetic moments were measured after the fatigue test using HTS SQUID. The magnetic moment of an as-received sample is higher than that of a fatigued sample in all the temperature ranges irrespective of the nitrogen content. The fatigue life decreased with an increasing test temperature up to 500 .deg. C, but increased at 600 .deg. C. The change of the magnetic moments by LCF test is attributed to the stress induced micro defects
