AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear reactors and cyclotrons are today the main producing facilities of artificial radioisotopes. These radionuclides are widely used, in particular, in nuclear medicine, such as in radiation therapy (utilizing the Cobalt-60 radioisotope) and medical imaging (utilizing the technetium-99 radioisotope). We propose to summarize, the basic information concerning the production of radioisotopes with research reactors, as well as information about the current project to implement a subcritical assembly-reactor in the National Centre of Nuclear Sciences and Technology (CNSTN). The CNSTN's subcritical assembly will serve as efficient tool for educating and training students and scientists. It would be then made available as a service to the community e.g. for industrial benefit and to academic organizations as an institutional benefit. The subcritical assembly is planned to be operational at the beginning of 2016 and will contribute for the initiation of the first steps (including the enacting of new legislation and the establishment of competent and independent nuclear safety regulator) needed for the development of the Tunisian nuclear power program and the related infrastructure, already considered. This project is carried out with the assistance and the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency. (Author)

[en] Measurements of data related to the spallation process have direct implications in the design of a hybrid system (accelerator + sub-critic reactor), mainly on the spallation target and the entrance window. Some examples are developed here

AbstractAbstract
[en] The adapted equation derived originally to describe a critical condition was proposed for the case of transient process in subcritical systems with a neutron multiplication factor Keff = 0.96-0.98. The calculations used the experimental data of MUSE (multiplication with an external source). A simple expression due to a very short lifetime of prompt neutrons τpr = 5.8·10-7 s was obtained to determine the reactivity on the intensity of the neutron flux, at times up to 60 microseconds. AbstractAbstract
[en] The standard provides safety guidance for conducting subcritical neutron-multiplication measurements where physical protection of personnel against the consequences of a criticality accident is not provided. The objectives of in situ measurements are either to confirm an adequate safety margin or to improve an estimate of such a margin. The first objective may constitute a test of the criticality safety of a design that is based on calculations. The second may effect improved operating conditions by reducing the uncertainty of safety margins and providing guidance to new designs

AbstractAbstract
[en] Results: of Monte Carlo modeling of the experimental accelerator-driven electronuclear system composed of the subcritical assembly and the phasotron of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research are presented. The design thermal power of the subcritical assembly in Dubna (SAD) is equal to 30 kW. A possibility of increasing the assembly power without changing its design and basic components is considered. The proposed upgrade of the installation provides a power increase of up to 100 kW and is based on operations available both before and after the installation is brought to operation at the nominal power with partial fulfillment of the experimental program.

Proceedings of the international thorium energy conference: gateway to thorium energy2015
AbstractAbstract
[en] The International Thorium Energy Committee (iThEC) created in Geneva in 2012 is concerned about the energetic future of our society, which is totally organized on the basis of a fossil fuel economy. This has to change because of obvious geopolitical reasons, because of the impact this economy has on the environment, and because of the rather short time on the human time scale, it will take for fossil fuels to run out. One of the main goals of iThEC is to work on reversing the current negative perception of nuclear energy in Europe, which is the main hurdle to a more serious R and D effort in this field. iThEC provides better information to the public on thorium possibilities, supports thorium ADS technology developments, any R and D regarding thorium, and actively engages the scientific, political and business leadership on the subject
